Champions League Semi Final *Spoilers* 29/30 April

i've just decided i definitely want chelsea to go through, on paper and after their victory over us on saturday it should be the harder match but i honestly don't think i could live with myself should liverpool somehow manage to beat us in the final.

I asked the question to Linoge last year whether there was a slight degree of relief when you guys got knocked out by Milan so you didn't have to face us and i can honestly say that although i'll be disappointed if we lose tomorrow there will definantly be a degree of relief.

I'd definantly rather win tomorrow but i don't think there will ever be a game with that much tension as there will if we win and the nerves will kill me :(

You must think this guys dumps come out smelling like roses or something, he's ok terrorising the premiership minions but against the continental cream he's been found wanting.

And as I just proved with FACTS (something you're not), that what you said is absolute garbage. He's scored against all the top sides in the Premiership bar Chelsea and he's scored past AC Milan, Lyon, Roma, Sporting Lisbon in the last 12 months.

I could argue that the only top European side he hasn't scored past was Barcelona, and given that we should have had a further 2 penalties, he'd have scored one of those.

So if Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Portsmouth and Villa are 'minions', then you're right. As they're not, you're wrong.

I was thinking this earlier, but it's potential lose-lose for Man Utd whoever wins tomorrow.

Imagine us losing Europe AND Premiership to Chelsea. :o

As I said, losing to Chelsea would be bad, and would only be truly terrible if they stole the league too.

I do think Liverpool have the right mentality in Europe. They play 3 games less than everyone else. Absolute ***** for the first 3, then just do well in the rest of them. :p.

That's the way to do things though ;)

I don't usually believe in fate but on occasions there are things in football that are just meant to be. From the minute Gerrard scored vs Olympiakos i was certain we'd win the CL in '05 (placed a bet on it there and then); the way we qualified from our group and the countless coincidences from when we last won it were unreal.

And I have to admit that from the first time i was told the final was in Moscow, i've always had a funny feeling Chelsea would win it. Hope im wrong though.

I'm just hoping that the game tomorrow has some decent attacking football from Liverpool, who need to score in this match to set up a Liverpool - Man Utd final. Its great to know nomatter what happens the Champions League trophy will be coming to England.

yeah you've got me with that one actually, i should have thought it through a bit more.

You got it :) The best midfield / centre back/..... what ever just happen to only manage 4th in their own league - but it HAS to be the best midfield unquestionably - no matter that against a "lesser" side they all seem to just disappear..... fancy that:)

I am going to be on a train at 6.40 from Euston to Birmingham so will miss most of the first half and some of the second half.

I feel so sick at the thought of beating Chelsea and then loosing to Man U that part of me almost would prefer to loose to Chelsea tonight.

Saying that, nothing would be sweeter than beating Man U in the final...

Thought Ferguson still made harder than it should have been.

I cannot understand why he brought giggs on, there were two occasions the ball fell less than 10 yards from him that had he sprinted and made an effort to get to, he could have powered past his man and took the pressure of the defence.
AS it was, he just looked at it till a barca player picked it up.

He is shocking.

Some truth in that, but i never really felt that barca were going to score. UTD weren't great in possession but they didn't need to create anything as Barca gifted them a goal which was no surprise.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 'gifted'. There was still a fair amount to do when the ball popped out to Scholes!

I would agree with C64 in that the better team lost over the course of the two games, but if you don't create and take clear chances it doesn't matter how dangerous you look. It doesn't matter how many players you go past or passes you string together. You win by scoring more goals and Barca never really looked like doing that.

As an aside has Van Der Sar always been that bad at kicking? I know it was never his strongest point, but he was appalling.

So let's have a laugh, which Man Utd fans still think Ronaldo is better than Messi :D?

Messi was on a different planet last night, if his fellow attackers were on the same page they would have bagged a couple, instead they stood still and watched him and his quality was wasted.

Ronaldo in comparison was poor, ran down many dead ends, lost the ball about 75% of the time he got it, was greedy when it came to him (often the reason for him losing it) and just isn't the best player in the world in my eyes. I think he completed about 5 passes in 90 minutes. But because he ran a bit and did what is basically standard for any footballer (tackle) for a change the commentaters decided to pick that as the reason he was good. Ridiculous, he was average last night but the commentaters made him seem as though he was a big threat for some reason.

Fantastic strike by Scholes I thought, nobody was going to save that.

Man Utd defended well over all but they did look a little shaky at times, but Barca weren't nearly cut throat enough to capitalise on these mistakes.

Barca were the better team in both legs I felt, but I also think Man Utd weren't bothered about playing football and just wanted to progress which they did well, but they might not have got away with it if Barca were better. Overall you can't argue about Man Utd going through as Barca just weren't direct enough but you could also say it takes something very special to score when Man Utd have 8 players in their own box at most times in the game.

I thought Nani was the worst player on the pitch for the 2nd consecutive game, looked out of his depth in both.

Hargreaves played well, so did Brown which is the first time I've been able to say it this season! Good job from him. Tevez never stopped running, it was incredible how he kept going, full marks for effort, I also thought Park had a good game. Apart from that Man Utd were quite average though.

To be fair Ronaldo was playing up top last night with Tevez dropping deeper. He didn't get much support with manyoo camped on their 18.

Messi overshadowed C.Ron just a little bit over two legs didn't he? His dribbling his absolutely immense, really is on a completely different level to Ronaldo's.

Just hope the kid can shake those injuries, or avoid a big one ala Ronaldo La Lima, because I think the sky is the limit.

Yeah Messi dribbles the ball better, but Ronaldo is much more direct.

I'd much rather have both of them though!

I just think Messi has everything and he also has attributes that Ronaldo doesn't. Messi is completely selfless whereas Ronaldo is greedy. Messi has terrific vision for a killer ball which Ronaldo doesn't have. Also Messi has more control over the ball and it is nigh on impossible to take it off him whereas a poor Barca defence had no problem taking it off Ronaldo repeatedly. Messi just strikes me as a more skillful and intelligent team player.

PS - Messi is really direct if you watch some Spanish league games, last night Man Utd made it impossible for him to be direct as there were always 6+ players in front of him! Which is credit to Man Utd really.
