British teams in the last 8

Firstly I am SOOOOOOOO happy that Chelsea probably won't be there. They can buy the Premiership all they want but it will be a long time before they can buy the European Cup.

I think there will be two British teams in the next round - Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal will get a hard fought draw against Real Madrid, and I think Liverpool will win by 2 clear goals.

As a Rangers fan I think we do have a chance, but a slim one. Villarreal's defence were very poor in the air at Ibrox and if we can get a couple of decent balls in the box on the head of big Kris Boyd we might sneak a goal. However I can't see our leaky defence keeping a clean sheet. I'm going to predict Villarreal 1-1 Rangers meaning we will go out on the away goals rule.

So in summary:

Barcelona 2 - 0 Chelsea (Barcelona through 4-1 Agg)
Liverpool 2 - 0 Benfica (Liverpool through 2-1 Agg)
Arsenal 0 - 0 Real Madrid (Arsenal through 1-0 Agg)
Villarreal 1-1 Rangers (Villarreal through on away goals rule)

Apologies if this clashed with an existing thread - there was nothing I could see on the first 2 pages.

Fingers crossed that Chelsea can pull out a miracle. If anyone can beat Barca in the situation they're in its them.

Hope Arsenal can keep it tight at Highbury and nick a goal.

The rest I'm not so bothered about, as long as those 2 get through.

Barcelona will score no doubt about it so I think we're gonna need to score 3 or 4 again, unlikely this time I feel although their defence does seem a bit leaky so you never know.
Hopefully Arsenal & Rangers sneak through, don't care what Liverpool do:)

The match for me is the Liverpool game. I've got that gut feeling we are not going to make it through and Benfica will win on the away goal rule.

Sorry to say this but I hope Bara win.

I'm not too bothered about Arsenal & Chelsea, but I hope Liverpool and Rangers get through. The thought of Rangers in the last 8 gives me the boak but the pragmatist in me says it will help maintain the re-emergence of Scottish Football.

Thought I'd start the thread on the match tonight.

Looks like Mourinho might have learned from his mistake at Stamford Bridge and pay more attention to Messi. At Stamford Bridge all their focus was on stopping Eto'o and Ronaldinho that they left this little genius with far too much space and he was just too good for the Chelsea fullbacks. Gallas should provide a harder test for him (if he plays LB that is) but even he might need some help.

Should hopefully be a classic, more of the great football we saw in the 2nd half at Stamford Bridge please :)

If the match was 0-0 i could see chelsea winning over there; sitting back and counter-attacking. But with them needing to score; i just can't see Barca not scoreing at least a goal if not 2 or even 3. Generally when Chelsea play bigger teams they sit back and let the opposition take the game to them and try to hit them on the break. I just don't think the situation suits Chelsea's style of play. Only thing going for them is that Barca only play one way, attacking football, maybe chelsea will be brave enough to sit back and try and score a couple on the break; the risk is either Barca get a goal or they don't get any chances to hit them on the break.
As for Liverpool, like the chelsea game, in another situation i could see liverpool getting a 2-0 with no problem, but 1 goal from Benfica will mean we need 3. If they play like they did against Charlton it shouldn't be a problem; we attacked well (without scoring) and practically gave them no chances (think there first attempt at goal was in the 80th minute).

Barcalona 2-2 Chelsea (Whatever happens tonight JM's interview will be entertaining as usual)
Liverpool 2-0 Benfica
Arsenal 1-2 Real Madrid (saying that with Arsenal and Real it could go 5-0 either way, you never know how either side is going to play any more)
Villarreal 2-0 Rangers (Villarreal just too good for Rangers)

I don't think they under-estimated Messi in the first leg; the way Del Horno kicked him about for the red card and before. I don't think they can afford to pay too much attention to Messi, with Eto and Ronny around.

They need to keep an eye on Larsson this time, considering it was him that turned the last game in Barcas favour.
