change my ip adress

I've never cringed before when reading a post, till now!

Your PCs MAC address has nothing to do with your public/external IP lol ...

If the mac changes dhcp will give you a different ip address...

I think he used a feature on the route to change its mac

Lol! Sounds like the OP is connecting a router to a student or corporate network via ethernet and using it as a gateway/switch? I guess that's why he was able to request new IP address because it's no different to a PC requesting a new IP address using ipconfig /release and then /renew. I'm guessing we all assumed he was connecting to an ISP?

But then the whole point is so he can use those free download sites more than once per hour. If he gets a new IP from the local DHCP server using this method, then fair enough, but the WAN IP for the actual gateway (the IP address that the download website sees) would not be changed, and if it's a corp/edu connection chances are the WAN IP is going to be pretty static, and furthermore chances are some other student will have used the free download token already.

The more I think about this thread the more confused I get.

Thread in which person who doesn't know what they are doing rages at people who are trying to understand what the hell he is doing.

Surely any logical solution to temporarily change your IP would be to connect through a VPN. This guy seems to be going to far much hassle than is needed.

Still it's cheered my afternoon up at work.

Easiest way is to turn off the modem of a few minutes and then turn it back on so your ISP can renew you with a new IP... And really, it's only your ISP that can change your IP address. I don't understand what method OP wants to use .

He wants to use the click a button to clone your internal mac address button so he can clone his internal mac address to get a new internal ip address durrr

:D

I think someone needs to explain the(?) DHCP to OP...

No chance.... lol :D or should I LMFGTFY
