changes in my pc

cheers mate, ill be updating this soon as im currently marking up a few things to cut a window in to it, also modding the front so it can take 2x140mm fans for better airflow

added a bottom fan to help with gpu temps

ok started attacking the case with the dremel.

plan is to persaude the case to take 2x140mm fans instead of 2x120mm. the arc mini doesnt come from fractal with the ability to have 2 140mm at the front where as the arc midi can. i think fractal missed a trick tbh, they could easily have fitted 2 140mm fans at the front if they just moved the optical drive up like 5mm

ok so we start with one stripped arc mini

roughly marked up where to cut. basically the just after the little holes at the front is about where it should be

first rough cut, the fans fit but not 2 of them yet

ok so to fit 2 140mm fans in i had to cut into the 5.25 bay, im not sure how this will affect things but the worst that can happen is i dont have a optical drive anymore and just have a fan controller. i do think the fan controller will fit fine though.

tidied up for tonight will finish tommorow.

im going to either rivet or screw the 3.5" bay back into place tommorow, im thinking maybe ill just screw it in as then i can remove it easily.

the fans attach to the front plastic peice, i removed the clips that normally hold 120mm fans and drilled some holes to allow the 140's to be attached. the screws and holes wont be seen once the front mesh is installed

also need some u channel trim

I hope you weren't trying to use those thumb screws as ear protection?

Looking good though, I'm right in thinking the inside of the Arc Midi is quiet similar to the Define cases?

much happier with it now. the leds light up the case nicely.

it isnt as silent now though. the spectre pro fans arew disappointing tbh anything above min fan speed makes them noisey and one of the fans makes a really bad scratchy noise regardless of speed.

the hydra pro looks great but it has a weird thing with it where if i adjust certain fans it will cause other fans to speed up or make the other fans leds flicker. bit dissapointed with the fans and fan controller. the 140mm fans are the noisy ones though, the 120mm fans are fantastic

thanks, the airflow is a massive improvement over previous. i know idle temps are not a true indication but its took up to 5c off cpu idle temps and gpu has dropped by around 3 and is much quieter now when playing games.

Update incoming.

Right I have enough components now to do a cpu only loop, consisting of 2x 240 rads. In two minds as to build the loop now and then stick the gpu in later when amd release their new cards or just build it up now on air and wait and then do the whole lot in one go. anyway new case yo!

Im just hoping its better than the previous version, apparently that had issues with making fans squeal.
You're not just pulling my leg there are you?
It does have a nice finish on it, a lot of the fan controllers put me off with their plastic facias. Would be a shame if the Akasa did make your fans squeal like a pig..
Cue the Duelling Banjoes

lol this has no reveiws and the manufacture code has V2 at the end so it leads me to think that its a revised version that hopefully doesnt cause any issues. Ill have to test it first of course.

This one
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BB-010-AK&groupid=701&catid=2331&subcat=189

the other version on ocuk site has reveiws stating it caused fans to produce a high pitched squeal or buzzing noise.

Happy update!

Fan controller works perfectly! no unexpected noises, fans can be turned off completely from the controller allowing passive cooling.

very happy with it, an excellent product

If people want to buy it then here is the codes

OCUK stock Code: BB-010-AK

Manufacturers Code: AK-FC-08BKV2

Fan controller sits nice and flush with the case. I used the provided screws to hold it in place and stuck the tooless clip thing back into place to cover the screws.
