In that case they should just use slow zones. The gap is maintained as everyone slows down to the same speed through the same section, but races the rest of the lap.
The use of Slow Zones at Le Mans and in other series is to negate the need for a SC.
You would still have the SC for things that effect the whole track, like rain, but for crashes that affect a couple of corners slow zones seem to work well.
My housemate told me that they won't ever get rid of the safety car as Merc pay a fortune to provide it and the medical cars. Not seen an official source on that but it sounds very F1...
The restarts with having to start on the marbles is just going to be stupid and potentially dangerous.
