Changing a previous build?

Just had a thought last night, wouldn't I need a 64-bit copy of windows 7 running to make use of the 8GB ram?

Did you buy a retail copy of Win 7? As my retail version has both 32 bit and 64 bit installation disks, so I would think they should work off the same product key.

Used the OEM IB i5K as it is cheaper and you wanted an aftermarket cooler, it does only have 1 years warranty where as the retail CPU has 3 years. It uses less power than sandybridge and is clocked faster with a better IGP. THe IGP is used for quicksync so the IB again will top the SB for video encoding.

I'm a big fan of the nvidia 460 but the 6850 is on par and much cheaper. You can OC the 6850 to nigh on 6870 (£120ish GPU) performance very easily. The lucid MVP on the Z77 mobo will boost it's performance too :)

Case is a bargain, 4 120mm fans, fan controller and digital temp display with cablemanagement. PSU is overkill but is a modular PSU has all the power you will ever need and currently the 700W is cheaper than the 600W version ;) You spec'd an OEM bluray drive which means it's probably not going to come with playback software and a sata cable.

Hope this helps :)

Yeah that helps, i appreciate that you broke it down and explained your suggestions as i'm not in the knowledge in computer parts.

I wasn't aware you could overclock the graphics card either? I may even buy a 60GB SDD for my netbook and throw the 250GB HDD into the tower as well when it's built :)

I can't say if i will but i can't see myself playing games on it (my attention span isn't the longest!)

I will stick with the 3570 :)

Best of removing the competitor link before a Mod spots it, as it is against forum rules. Just a friendly warning.

But, well done on getting a bargain.:D

Sorry about that, edited it out :).

Yeah i'm pretty chuffed with the saving, seems to be some bargains out there if you dig deep enough:D

Got another Z9 Plus sorted :).

On a note with motherboards and RAM; how do i know if a motherboard will support dual, tri and quad channel ram etc?

Thanks :)

Dual channel = most boards
Triple channel = LGA 1366 boards
Quad channel = LGA 2011 boards

That's at the consumer end anyway. :)
