Changing address - Who *needs* to know?

Hi,

I am soon going to be changing my address. As I will be leaving the family home if I forget to change some details (for example a mobile phone bill) then it is not the end of the world - My parents can look after or forward mail to me. My question therefore, is who *needs* to know? I am intending to transfer all details eventually however I am more interested in knowing those that need to know immediately.

Eg, driving license, passport, etc? I am aware that most of this may be available by searching online however I was hoping somebody else may have done this recently and can advise.

Thank you! :)

Driving License is the main one as I think it is an offence to drive with incorrect information on it (e.g. address).

Banks are very important too if you still receive statements as personally I wouldn't like to leave them delivering for family :p.

We've done this very recently.

Doctor
Dentist
DVLA
Car Insurance
Bank accounts
TV License
Passport
Work (for payroll)

There's probably some more I've forgotten :)

Royal Mail redirects \o/

I was going to say, go into your local Post Office and get a redirect set up (maybe even online?). That will catch all the stuff you might miss.

Most main things seem to be covered though in this thread. Plus I've been in my new house 6 months and I STILL get mail from the previous owners, even though they had a redirect setup.

It takes them a week for it to go through! Pah! So set it up 2 weeks before you move.

I've just moved house and I'm in the process of changing all my addresses. First to do was the banks, then mobile phone, Oyster etc. I'm slowly getting through the others, this thread will be useful

All of them, otherwise you'll have financial records at two address, which will massively reduce your chance of getting you credit. You never know what will come up and if you'll need a card or loan.
Also don't forget electroll roll

Best just to set a day aside to change everything. Otherwise 6months down the line things will still be split between two addresses.

I did it online:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/NeedANewOrUpdatedLicence/DG_4022088

You'll need the DOC number from paper part of license.

I'll have a look thank you :)

Just this off the dvla site is a bit missleading :o :
Can I change my address when using the online or telephone service?

No. You need to fill in your address details on section six of your Registration Certificate and send the whole Registration Certificate to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BA.
