is it possible to change the letter and order of hard disks (or partitions) without screwing up all my installed programs.
I have windows on one partition, programs on another, media on another etc, but after a recent re-install of windows the partitions have been re-labeled in an unintuitive way and i want to re jiggle them.

use disk management (diskmgmt.msc from run) to change them

don't change the windows one, it'll kill your install

you could reinstall, with only 1 drive attatched, it should take C: for windows then

foudn the disk management service but I can't change the drives i want to.

really wish I done that in the first place. I've discovered windows has decided to put a load of system files on my music drive. Not going to risk trying to move them. Looks like i have to reinstall windows AGAIN. Third time lucky for this build.
will do it properly next time and not take short cuts like leaving all my other hard drives connected while i install windows.
windows!:mad::rolleyes:

there should be an 'advanced' setup choice when installing windows

so you can tell it from the off where you want things like..

temp folder
program files
documents
windows!

to be installed, instead of having to use unattended methods

hmmmm. I've never seen/heard of that before, and i've done quite a few windows installs. Normally i just boot off the windows cd and go from there. Don't recall ever seeing an 'advanced' option. this is XP SP2 btw.
