Well, it's that time of year again. Painful, stingy, dry and cracked lips. I forget about it until it catches me, like a robber in the night. I think of happy times, where my lips and I were one. Now though, they are at war with my face, intent on causing as much discomfort as possible.

I sometimes wake up with blood around my mouth, and in a lot of pain. HELP!

I've tried chap sticks et al, and although they 'help', they really annoy me. Same with vaseline. I read it's not a good idea to start using the stuff anyway, as it stems the production of the natural oils on your lips. Vicious circle blah blah....

What can I use apart from a chap stick? I hate them. I'm tired of putting up with this every year though, and I want to nip it in the bud before it reaches the usual biblical proportions.

Help ma mouth OcUK!

Cheers. I'll have a look in Tesco tomorrow.

Nobody else I know has it as bad as me. They're burning constantly. I bet I wake up with blood everywhere in the morning :(

Try blistex. You want to get a medicated lip care, not just normal chap stick or vaseline.

This stuff is great, make sure you get the one that's supposed to be used for cold sores, not just normal lip balm. If you use it every day, it should stop your lips from cracking and hurting.

Mine get like that, Blistex works wonders, it really helps but I got addicted to it :(

LOL omg dude, blood around your mouth when you wake up? LMAO.

I thought I had bad lips, they can get a bit dry anytime of the year but not THAT bad

I just asked the Mrs she says Blistex as well

Just always putting crap on so she knowa about these things

My lips seem to lose a layer of skin every few weeks all year round... it doesn't hurt (unless if I try to rip the dead skin off) but just looks weird with white flaky bits on my lips.

Remiinds me of the time my hands were so dry from the weather and the chemicals we use at work that i bled down the 4 pint milk carton i was carrying all over the checkout scanner, didnt even notice untill there was a small puddle on the metal around the scanner. My hands used to get so bad the flesh would smell necrotic, it doesnt get so bad nowadays though which is good.

I've got something called Cymex that my mum bought for me. It's meant for cold sores, and is a medicated cream.

Like Blistex but better apparently. It has worked well on my lips in the 2 days i've used it!!!

Amazing.

Hopefully it will continue to improve.

Oh yes, cold weather + severe eczema = the worst chapped lips you'll ever see. Nothing says agony more than great lumps of your lips peeling away and dripping blood all down you.

Nothing clears them up either, the only thing that helps keep them in check is rubbing a small bit of Vaseline into them.
