I've just bought lord of the rings online and i'm trying to work out what class to be.
I would like 2 swords and be able to use bow and arrows like i saw on you tube but forgot to see what class they were.
Also can you have any weapons in the game or is it all class dependent?
cheers for any help given

Pretty sure that's the Hunter. The weapons you can use in the game are restricted by your level iirc. For example, you can only dual weild when you get lvl 10. Clubs and Hammers become usable at 15, etc. Swords you can use at lvl 1.

EDIT
I just thought. There may also be lvl requirements on items (I can't remember). In other words, you can use swords from lvl 1, but if there is a level requirement on a sword that says 15, then naturally you can't equip it until lvl 15. Or something like that.

Champion : Dual wield from the start, massive DPS/AoE DPS and can equip a bow in the early levels .. heavy armour and shield also..

Hunter : Great DPS with Bow or Crossbow, medium armour and can dual wield certain weapons approx lvl 20 iirc...

*Loremaster* : Caster, tons of Crowd Control, summons Pets .. can wield a Staff as main and much later on equip a sword in off-hand.. most versitile class in both PvP and PvE.. can also heal and debuff

Burglar : Dual wielding sneaky stealther, great fun later on and superb for debuffing, tons of tricks and escape skills v high survivability..

every class has a restriction on what weapons they can use, so it depends on your play style ..

my advice, roll a Hunter as its quite an easy class to play, has decent survivability and can 'map' to many locations saving tons of time.. however you will get more fun out of the Loremaster class in the long run .. and join the Laurelin EN-RP server its by far the most welcoming and mature , gluck

hunter is a great class to start with because its well, easy.

it was actually my second char after reaching the lvl cap with my minstrel. but it is defiantly the easiest class to lvl with both solo and in a group.

however when u get to lvl 50-60 and start end game dont be suprised when every group is full of hunters :)

im currently lvling a LM (at 42 atm) which is a very fun and involved class.

also have a burg at 45 which was fun and only really stopped as i went back to my minstrel and hunter when the update came out.

i have also just started a baby champ (lvl 13 aww)

all of the classes are fun when u know how to play them properly and you can really feel the use of your roll in a group.

Excellent mmoog - minstrels are getting some loving in book 7 theoretically due on thursday, but the most fun classes imho are the rune keeper and the warden. The game is as fun a s you make it - just wander around looking at the pretty scenery and youll get bored once theres no more pretty scenery to look at. Get involved with a kin, group up for quests and the experience is great. I would say LOTRO is the most mature mmog ive played.

To be honest I wouldn't go hunter first, because if you're not the type to actively go looking for a group you'll end up soloing all the way to 60, and you'll miss out on a lot of cool stuff along the way. Easy mode isn't always good :)

Ive been playing the trial for this and still not sure on it. I picked a hunter as you dont get much choice with the trial.

But unless I picked the wrong server I find it a very lonely experience. Hardly anyone talks and no one wants to group up. I think I picked a server called Everlight...one of the EN ones beginning with E... lol

Could someone please explain about PVP in this as well please. If you cant pick the evil side (or am i missing something) how can you do PVP?

Sorry for jumping in OP

I have a lifetime sub so sporodically go on the game when I get chance. Not really played much since MoM was released but got well into it last night.

I'm currently on [EN]Snowburn and it's pretty busy with lots of people looking for fellows, etc.

Bloodline - PvP is restricted to a single large zone and dungeon (I think) area. If your main character wants to PvP, this is where he goes, there are keeps to capture and stuff, it's like a single area from DaoC. If you want to play the bad guys here, you select monster play from the main menu. This lets you make an evil toon that starts at max level but can still progress via traits etc. This toon is limited to the PvP zone.

I don't know what the populations on the servers are like anymore. I moved to laurelin a while back and while initially it was very busy, it seems to have gone very quiet recently.

Ive been on Laurelin for the last two months... cant say its ever been quiet? Its listed as an RP server although I havent seen much of that but ive never had problems grouping, there always seems to be a good number of groups running around.

the starter area's are always avg population , but once you level up and get into Moria i can guarantee that Zelem (on Laurelin server) is like re-visiting Coronet Space Port in SWG !! total lagfest due to 50zillion peeps gathering there..

Bloodline : PvP is great, once one of your chars hits level 10 a new red button on the char selection screen will open 'Monster Play' , you can choose to play a creep which you have to level up via completing quests and fighting human 'freep' players ..

Monster play does take a lot of time to adjust to and levelling up only hapens by earning 'infamy' by killing human players.. i stopped PvE for 8mths and just sat playing on my creep chars as it was much more fun.. **also expect to die over and over the first few weeks you play a creep* .. let me know if your on Laurelin and ill show you around the moors if you want**

or get your freep char upto 60 and enter the PvP zone and fight 'creeps' .. but thats just dirty ;p

I'll be starting again tomorrow when i get my new rig. I played about 6-8 months ago, on Laurelin, only got up to 25 ish with my hunter, but was such a great game. If it wasnt for the fact that i struggled to play the game on low settings i'd still be going now!!

Is there a Kinship that a lot of people on here are part of?

Laurelin is still quite a busy server, from what I hear. I play on there. I ran a really decent Dwarf-only roleplay kinship back in the early days (The Mithril Order) and although we disbanded, I still dip back into the game every now and again because I have a lifetime sub.

Bk 7 hits the game today, yet another massive free content update .. the notes are too extensive to put in the post...

cant wait to login my creeps and get revenge on all the 'easymode' huntards !! mwahaha !!

rosseeles : OcUK dont have a guild on Laurelin, im in a massive Kin of three people :p who have played the game together since beta, feel free to contact us for help or advice

I bought lifetime sub with the preorder pack at release just so I'd be able to play a decent MMO on and off without having to be bothered with monthly subs.

I always enjoy playing it when I'm in the mood for that sort of thing, but I've never even hit level 50 with a character (46 burgler is the highest I've got).

Im 37 at the mo, a minstrel - my Kin Serenity are relatively large and friendly most of the time. Depending whose on you can generally find help with fellowship quests and theres a kin house which is a good free teleport back to Bree.

On the plus side Book 7 gives an accelerated xp curve which means youll be grinding less - although I have yet to really grind in this game. Sure theres plenty of 'kill X of X beasts' quests but generally theyre quite easy to do.

Fluke, i think if you go back on your burglar might have got a couple more levels as theyre correcting the xp curve retrospectively!
