Hi all,

I've been looking about for a 2TB HDD (External) solely for photo backup for clients. (Raw&JPG)

I know you can get caddy's and ofc just buy an external drive but wanted something which can be upgraded etc.

is it worth doing the caddy method or shall I just get a Seagate external?

£100 or just over :)

I always prefer the caddy route as I can swap drives as I please and I get to choose the caddy with the connections I want/need.

Would you prefer USB 3.0 or eSATA? Also, have you considered a docking station rather than external enclosure? It would allow you to "upgrade" with ease and use multiple backup drives.

Atm every usb as far as i know is USB2

can any of you spec a nice caddy & 2TB hdd :)

Thanks guys :)

Trying to find a slim design one other than the

Akasa Elite eSATA/USB 2.0 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure

Can anyone spec me a icy one?

gone for

the Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

&

Icy Box External Enclosure IB-390StUS-B 3.5" eSATA + USB 2.0 Combo

Just hope the 2TB doesn't go cheaper ..lol

my first 2TB drive too!

still best to partition them?

sorry to bump this slightly o/t

but is sata 2 HD able to work with mobo that are just normal sata? (had my mobo about 3 years so dont think it would be sata 2)

SATA II controllers will work fine with SATA I drives. Though the reverse isn't always true (some SATA I controllers need the SATA II drive that it's plugged into to have a jumper changed in order to limit the speed to the SATA I standard).

edit: so to answer your question you will probably need to install a jumper on the HDD for it to work. Try it and if it doesn't work then you may need to jumper the drive.
