Cheap first car?

Once my A3 is picked up today, I'll be getting a Z4 quite soon. I've got a quote from Elephant for the 3 litre version, at 23 and with 2 years NCB, for ~£950.

24 and over a grand, unless you're insuring something quite special, is ludicrous.

If he is living in a postcode area that is on fire more times than not, it might be an ok price. You can't just compare insurance prices on ages and ncd.

Very true! My post code makes things very expensive, i am in the worst rated area - or near enough.

A also drive a group 15 Celica GT which doesn't help.

cheapest insurance i found when i had just passed was with egg or churchill with both parents as additional driver. worked out about £2000 on either 1.2 corsa 02 plate or fabia 1.4 on a y plate

There's your problem - sounds like you fit the sterotype too, hurting everyone in the CW post code

Might as well get something cheap and stick it on TPFT. Not much point paying fully comp when the value of the car will be less than what the insurance will be.

Mondeo really is worth the small premium you will pay, and also of course in a bump generally it will be safer.

A guy on here got one for less than a grand that looked mint, think it had fairly low miles and was a 1.8. Loads of car for the money.

Why not just buy a good one in the first place

Because i'm cheap ;)

Thanks for the reply's, i will get my grandad as the named driver, i live with him and he has 9+ years NCB.

I can't decide really what to do for my second year driving. Do I go with a normal insurer to get NCB or do I keep a classic policy and get under half a grand fully comp at 18... if I don't run a car at uni I'll lose the NCB anyway so.... hm.

I might be getting a Peugeot 206 Lx 1999 1.1 5 Door Petrol, it will cost £600 with a provisional and £1100 with a full licence.
