Hi

I would like to build a cheap (under £400) powerful highly overclockable build.

I would like to use the E4300 Core 2 Duo processor
and at least a MoBo with a X16 PCI-E.

The build will be used for gaming as well.

Please could someone help me make this build.

Thanks a lot, Darknite.

Can you stretch this far?

I can go lower but this is just about the peak of low-budget overclocking value.

I guess I could stretch to £450 if i had too but are OC components any good? And what about an E4300 as the processor?

Apart from that it looks good :-) thanks.

Are they very overclockerable? I heard that some people can get 3GHz out of the Intel 'Allendale' E4300 from 1.8GHz.

Thanks for your help. Darknite.

You would also need a psu with that, thereby taking it out of your price range I'm afraid.
A PSU with what?

EDIT: Dark-nite, the same spec with the E4400 comes to £466.32 after taxes. Where would you like to start cutting? Can you salvage a HDD or DVD drive from another rig?

Well, you don't need to have the £35 cooler unless you want to get the cpu to absolute max clocks anyways =/

Yeah, but how good is the psu going to be, if you want to push things, then surely you'd need a decent power supply.
Yeah, but Antec's fairly decent and the rig in the above spec won't be very hungry for power with an X1950 Pro. I think that that 500W would do the trick. If not, you couldn't go wrong with a Corsair 450W model.

E2160 will do 3Ghz as well as a E4400. If you wanted that processor, I'd drop the E4400, get the E2160 and then get the IP35-E from Billy's spec. Any spare cash left just add to the hard drive, or upgrade from the 256mb x1950 to the 512mb (which is a tenner extra).

Then again, I'm no expert.

my 480w coolergiant does my rig ok and the components in mine are maybe a bit more power hungry being DDR1 and a DC 3800+.

the antec earthwatts power supplies are made by seasonic (same as the corsair ones), so they are good :)

Depends though doesnt it? the type of rails and amount it has, im not sure how many rails the corsair has im guessing 2 like its counterparts, but i would recommend the corsair psu, the HX series are top quality atm id expect VX to be no different, maybe more for the lower end but with the components your using the vx should be enough. just dont use any more components if you can help it:D

Does anyone know anything about the E4300, i'm not talking about the E4400 but the one below it. It isn't a conroe, it's a allendale core but I have heard good (overclocking wise) things about it.

Also are the OCuk value components actually any good?

Thanks once again for you help everyone much appreciated.
