Cheap Phenom CPU upgrade?

I like Tridef, but it's moot with my GTX680 using anaglyph.
I was considering one of those 120HZ monitors, but couldn't justify it to myself.
See how things are when your monitor comes, and then go from there.

Speaking of CPU upgrades, I WANT A 3570K :(.

I don't know anything about the 3570K, but I'd like it too :p

Yeah, I'll see how it goes. but according to post #15 in this thread below, I'm not too optimistic, lol.

+1 for the 965 or 960t. My 960T is doing great at 3.6GHz stock voltages (don't wanna unlock since I'm afraid of destroying the VRM/MOSFETs on my MoBo).

It appears you also have 4+1 split phase on your MoBo. My advice would be to not overvolt too much, or get some heatsinks to put on the VRMs. However, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine at stock voltages/non severe over volting. The 960T I think has a 95W TDP and the 965 a 125W TDP. Someone will need to clarify this.

I have the Phenom 550BE too which does unlock to 4 cores. I have overclocked it slightly but need more horsepower for a GPU update. I looked at the X6 range but think I am going to go for the X4 965 aswell. The higher stock speed and OC ability decided me. Games just don't need 6 cores (yet!)

5850's are great - and can often equal performance of a 6870 with a bit of tweaking they are a better card than the 6850 at stock.

1055T would be nice if you can stretch to it - overclocks to around 4ghz and 6 cores I have mine paired with a 6950 (modified to a 6970) very nice setup

Depends on the game - most games don't take advantage of more than 3 cores. But some do. Windows takes advantage though so boot times are generally snappier with more cores and obviously if you multi task its better to have more cores. I would say the 4 core would probably overclock 200mhz more to about 4.2 which is not a lot quicker - I personally would rather have the extra cores. Most 1055T (95w) OC to 3.8 - 4ghz.

i'd go with a X6 mine is incredable. Have it overclocked to 3.5 and it eats through games.

Did get it to 4.0 with my antec cooler but lowered it as didn't need it that high

Back in April 2010 I upgraded my Phenom II X4 955 BE to AMD Phenom II X6 1090T = 0 difference. In some games the X6 was actually under performing.

I still have the 1090T in my other system. I disabled core boost or whatever it's called since it's inferior to Intel Turbo boost. Instead I have made it run 3.6GHz on all 6 cores and with C&Q activated.
The CPU "crunches" all games fine paired with GTX 460 SLi - but I am not really impressed with Phenom II X6 vs X4 ...
I'd take a cheap X4 955 BE and OC it to 3.8Ghz or so.
