Hello OverclockersUK forum! First time posting here! :D

Right, my brother plays a lot of World of Warcraft and his current pc just is on it's last legs and is looking for a new cheap one as he don't have much money spare at the minute (he only plays WoW and the occasional Dawn of War - RTS's etc). He's wanting a rig that will be able to play WoW: Warlords of Draenor fine, preferably something that can handle 10 - 25 man raids ok. I was looking at this System on the OCUK website: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-017-OG&groupid=43&catid=2475 everything left as it is on the site, i already have a spare copy of Windows 7 to put on it. Any help would be much appreciated! :)

As WOW like single thread I'd say a Pentium Haswell anniversary overclocked would be great for him, or if you can afford a little more maybe a i5. If you want a better deal get the parts yourself and put them in. This way he can upgrade to anything like a i7 if he wants some more power later on.

Aim for an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU as WoW favours them which results in better price/performance for those brands. For CPU I would recommend an i3 or better and the best GPU you can afford, also an SSD is a great benefit over a HDD in WoW as it drops load times when teleporting plus removes stuttering when physically travelling between zones.

Pentium anniversary edition paired with a mid range gpu will handle wow nicely.

I'll see if I can squeeze in an SSD into the budget too.

Do you have any spares from the old build? I assume you don't need a monitor or peripherals?

The G3258 is a great way of getting cheap performance for WoW, at 4.5GHz it will match the i3-4330 which costs £40 more (of course the cooler to OC the Pentium won't be free).

I don't play WoW anymore, not for a looooong time. However I was under the impression it now uses multicores quite efficiently?

I would add that he should go 8G ram, instead of 4G. 4 is enough for WoW, but most of the time, while I am playing a game i have a lot of other things running aswell.

Wow is cpu intensive (and supposed to look better in WOD with all the new character models and spell affects) but when raiding it can be hard on GFX aswell, 10,25 or 40 toons running about and lots of mobs and spell effects, the anniversary cpu will be good but OC'ed so where are the coolers in your guys builds?

I do advocate this cpu myself im just saying factor in a descent cooler (that will fit in this case)

and yes 8gb is a must (imho) most people who raid have, addons and TS and such running in the back ground sometimes youtube to see how a boss has been downed before, so its well worth it

Poor choice of PSU tbh, bad internals compared to other PSU's in the same price range, but otherwise that's nice!

What's your max budget OP?

At that point you might as well get a Haswell Core i3,as even in the G3258 thread, people have got crap overclockers too.

^ yep cat for 400 its a squeeze any way you cut it , the closest I could get is about 600 factoring in what id be comfortable with (but its not my money) ( both builds will alough a good gaming experience, the case will allow most descent coolers and some AIO collers) but budget suffers

So the question is either you go for a G3258 overclocking rig,or get a Core i3 with a £50 motherboard.

Edit!!

What parts does the old PC have which can be re-used??

SATA HDD and optical drive? Case?

sounds like he isnt going to be bothered with overclocking so an i3 with stock cooler, nvidia 750, which is very low power so a 300 watt psu is fine with that.. will comee in lower than £400
