Cheaper football for pubs

Will they though? No 3pm games is a rule entirely separate from Sky, designed so that no-one in the UK can see games then. This ruling is simply about using an alternative to Sky when a game is "legally" (I've no idea if the 3pm thing is actual law) available.

Well the point is that at the moment the epl sells rights for 3pm games abroad. It could choose not to sell any rights for 3pm games in the whole of europe but that would definitely reduce its revenues so I can't see that happening.

I suspect the likely outcome would be the end of EPL 3pm kick-offs on Saturday's.

This rule came about because it was feared that attendances of lower league sides would be effected if Liverpool, Utd etc were being shown on TV at 3pm on a Saturday.

People who want to watch the 3pm kick offs can do, through pubs, online streams and those with motorised dishes.

Even though you could watch the 3pm games on TV, I still think people would still want to go home games to enjoy the atmosphere, have a day out get out of the house.

You couldn't say to the extreme it would kill attendences, but then again you couldn't argue it wouldn't skew them a tad.

But they don't use that theory for saturday dinnertime, sunday 2pm and sunday 4pm.
What difference would showing a 3pm match on a saturday be any different than those other times?

Well the point is that locals would be able to fit their local team in around the early/late kickoffs. E.g. you watch the game at 12:45, finishes around 14:20, then stroll down to watch Accrington Stanley at 3pm. Then that game finishes around 16:50 and you stroll back home to watch the 17:30 kickoff.

I think it's overplayed myself, when I go to football I leave at 11am and get home at 9pm, I don't decide to stay at home just so I can watch the two televised games.

The difference is the vast majority of Football League games are shown at 3pm on a Saturday not at those other times.

I don't agree with the rule but that's what it is.

I know people can but it's not as easily available as it would be if Sky had their way and they were able to broadcast every game legally.

Don't you mean 'played'?

I don't think it would make any difference at all on a saturdays attendance if the 2 lowest clubs were shown on SKY.
Fans already make their mind up that they are going to a live match whether it's on TV or not.

It's quite easy to prove for SKY.
This saturday they could use channels to show all 3pm games and the FA can tot up the gate fees.

Yeah but take over here in Ireland for a perfect example. You can see all the channels that they show in the Republic up here, and during an international week, lots of pubs will choose to show the Irish game through Setanta, rather than Northern Ireland on the BBC. Which they're perfectly entitled to do, I believe.

However, when it comes to 3pm Saturday games, the channel is blocked, and I'm fairly sure the pubs would get in trouble if they tried to circumvent the rules.

Now, just because it might become possible for individuals to watch 3pm games (and lets face it, watching a stream has never been something the police will break down your door over anyway), doesn't mean the pubs will be allowed to broadcast them. I don't know who put this rule in place, but it clearly isn't a Sky choice, as I'm sure they'd happily show 3pm games if they could.

As mentioned they'll negotiate the whole EU contract at once. If that means football isn't shown in mainland Europe anymore, then that's what will happen. The UK TV market is too lucrative.

my friend spent about that amount on a box and dish but he gets everything and regular updates. he had the dish professionally installed and it's remote movable though it is 1000mm dia and this didn't go down well when he had it installed on the front of his house which is a listed building. he now has it in his back garden out of view. thought about getting one myself but the other sources will do for now.

Can I talk about this now?
Over the years I've had 2 emails from Dons telling me to shut up about my satellite system because it's illegal (which it wasn't).
The best providor for Prem football is Tring which is on 16E (last night I had a choice of 4 matches).
There is also Sky Germany 19E, Sky Italia 13E, Nova 13E and Viasat on 5E.

For at least 3 years pubs have *'legally'* been able to show Prem football on a saturday afternoon because of 'Murphy's Law' as long as they had a proper card.

* Sky weren't able to touch them until this case went through.

more info needed,

whats the easiest/best box to use?

hd and non hd (just to see the price difference and see if it is best going for non hd then save up for hd)

also i dont think i will be able to mount it anywhere, so a decent free standing motorised satellite recommendation too lads.

how much space do you need around the sat? like clearance from buildings, bushes, tree's etc?

something which will last a good few decades, dont want the motor burning out after a couple of years.

email me with links and i can do my own reading up if you have them - cheers
