Cheaper football for pubs

Don't you mean 'played'?

I don't think it would make any difference at all on a saturdays attendance if the 2 lowest clubs were shown on SKY.
Fans already make their mind up that they are going to a live match whether it's on TV or not.

It's quite easy to prove for SKY.
This saturday they could use channels to show all 3pm games and the FA can tot up the gate fees.

I think you're wrong about it not making a difference to attendences. I know from when we have a midweek game that people say they would rather stay home and watch the EPL or CL. The affect would be seen in the loss of some semi-regular fans who are now faced with the choice of watching Man U v Chelsea instead of Dundee v Cowdenbeath.

Surely the solution is to make Sunday the 'official' EPL day. Maybe a game Sat lunchtime and evening, all the others on Sunday. Don't Italy do it like this? That way the lower leagues can all play Saturday and I would have thought all round attendance/viewing figures could actually increase.

Just put all the ****ing games back to 3pm and let them all be shown on TV simultaneously.

Won't happen though, I know.

I think this is a great idea actually. Could even have a 7.45pm game on a Saturday.

My bad - I wasn't thinking about the lower leagues

Its not bad, shift all midweek games to Wednesday aswell, champs league still needs to be tuesday and wednesday due to too many teams and all the games being on tv/getting bigger audiences around Europe, anyone playing a Tuesday CL game can take the Saturday early/late slot games with everyone else playing Sunday.

The other rather obvious situation would be if all the games were live on tv, I'd happily pay more money, tv revenue would be far greater, and a lot of the extra money can be spread around the lower leagues.

This is what Sky wanted to do some years back but as mentioned earlier, they were blocked because of fears that lower league attendances would be hit.

Like I said earlier in the thread, the most likely outcome I can see is the end of 3pm kick-offs in the EPL.

Dreambox -the cheapest being the 500 and they go up depending on built in hard drive and HD.

Perhaps 28E if you want SKY Freesat.
If you've got an Android phone see if you can get an app called Dishpointer.

My 36v H-H mount has lasted over 20 years.
Nowadays they will sell you a Diseqc motor.

cheers the way my current house is the place i was thinking of is unsuitable, will see when i move house in a few months whether i can find a suitable place in the new house.

would it be possible to use a satelite say indoors, with a large skylight in the attic? or maybe even 2 skylights?

would the signal be degraded/noisy?

Fingers crossed The European Court of Justice makes the right decision :).

This would probably be the first useful thing the EU has actually done! :p

I don't get why Sky etal would be soo against it anyways. Surely competition is good, and the public will subscribe to whichever is the best value (note value, not cheapest. Amount of ads, picture quality, commentary quality, cost, etc would all be factors).

You obviously haven't watched the foreign channels to make this comment.
The picture quality isn't as good as SKY and some channels (like Tring) are just watchable and I have a 1 metre Lenson Heath.
Commentary is mostly English with recognised commentators because they just buy the transmission but sometimes the English commentary isn't available.
Before the match, half time and after the match the language reverts back to the native language so don't expect to see any match analysis in English.
All of them have adverts in a foreign language but the Scandinavian channels play the same bit of looping rock music for the 15 minutes of half time.

If your skylight was the width of your dish and only pointed at one satellite them you might stand a chance.
The main 3 satellites are 19E, 16E and 13E so only 6 degrees different.
You could even point at 19E and use an offset twin LNB to get 13E at the same time without moving the dish.
In fact with the right arm and setting up you could point at 16E and using 3 LNBs lock into the 3 birds without moving the dish.
You will also have to have the window open.

This is my Chav dish which has been going for 25 years -

That's exactly my point.

This is healthy competition. The public can chose between this and Sky's product. If they feel Sky's product is worth the extra dolla they'll pay it. If they feel that Tring's product is better value-for-money they'll buy that instead. Choice is good :).

If Sky find they're losing customers then they'll just have to make their product better value-for-money. Whether that's increasing the quality (PQ, commentary, ads, etc) or lowering the price is entirely up to them.

the way i see it, sky is like £50 a month, thats £600 a year, one of these dish setups could pay for itself within a couple of years easily or even a year depending on how cheaply you do it.

The financial saving is only a small advantage. The biggest advantage is that you'll be able to watch more or less any game you want to watch. I've not missed a Liverpool league game in years and had English commentary 95% of the time too. No poor quality streams with Chinese commentary for me.

Years ago I used to watch the foreign channels via a 1.2mtr dish on a polar mount back in the days of D2mac encryption.
When everyone went digital it started to become a problem. Firstly all the websites that provided updated access codes (you could simply update your 'card' via the decoders menu with the remote) got zapped with takedown notices due to DCMA. Then whilst it was possible to buy a dreambox and get an official card from an overseas broadcaster you couldn't apply from a UK address so this was only possible via a middleman on the continent. As soon as the channels realised that multiple cards were being ordered and sold on to the UK they would block access to those cards leaving UK viewers without the service and out of pocket.
Luckily ADSL became available here around that time so streams became the way to get to see the games.
If this gets ratified in the EU court I can see me going back to using a motorized dish again but only if it becomes possible to legally buy the service in the UK.

the end of 3pm kick offs?
Never!

But I hope that 3pm games become available would be good if they could show them all live
I feel it is very unfair that across Europe and the rest of the world they get to see these games live at 3pm but in UK we have to use foreign setup and slow internet streaming.

I can't see them ending 3pm kick offs though that would kill the premiership!
