Cheapest Skiing in France?

Can't do the UCPA scheme. Irritating...

I've had a look and Three Valleys/Val Thorens looks good. I forgot to mention that probably the most important factor is ski in / ski out location for the accomodation (or very short walk).

Could try Les Menuires? Just down the valley from Val Thorens and usually cheaper. Easy access to the Val Thorens ski area (and the whole 3valleys area) from lifts in the village too.

As I said above, the closest you can get to a resort by train is Bourg-St-Maurice, which is the end of the line. From there, unless you are staying in Bourg or Les Arcs, you will need to make further travel arrangements to get you to the resort you choose.

I think the train stops at La Plagne before Bourg.

I would say the best places to ski in France are Espace Killy (Val D'Isere, Tignes) or 3 Valleys (Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens)

I think you will find it very hard finding ski in ski out accommodation during Easter holidays for cheap, it will also be stupidly busy.

In January we are going back to Tignes in a catered chalet, it came to £560 including flights. I dont think this is bad at all once you factor in food for 6 nights nights, breakfast and the fact you also get free wine, cakes, snacks etc.

Personally I would rather save a bit more money and then literally ski back to the front door, then get in a hot tub outside with a beer :)

There is Aime-La-Plagne train station, but the Eurostar Snow Train doesn't stop at it, it goes straight to Bourg. You could reach it on a different service, by making a number of changes.

The downside to Aime-La-Plagne station though is that you need a taxi or transfer up to the resort. Bourg however, as soon as you step off the train, you just walk to the end of the platform to take the Funicular lift up into the resort, then use the free bus to get to whichever part of the resort you are staying in. I believe you can also do this and take the bus to the Vanoise Express, which is the huge cable car which links Les Arcs and Les Plagne to make up the Pardiski ski area.

TBH the danger was probably a lot less than you all perceive it to be. Marshalls would have been waving plenty of flags to warn all the other drivers. They would have seen the potential danger a mile away and taken the steps to avoid. Slap his wrist by all means and give him a huge fine to wipe the smile off his face.. But 8months? life ruined? come-on !

What sickens me is minority youth who beat a granny for their handbag probably gets less than 8months.

Wrong thread? :p

But anyway, does anyone know about Wasteland? We are all 16-17, looking more like 6-8 people now.

Andorra.

Pasa De La Casa - the ski lift is on the edge of town, and it was still snowing there in May last year.

VAT free too.....border guards are on lunch from 12 til 2. Can roll a whole van of goods out with no checks.....

Just had a look at Andorra and it looks bloody brilliant. £1500 for 7 nights, 8 people, next to the slope, in decent looking apartment!

I wouldn't say Andorra is particularly a resort for advanced or expert skiers but it has a couple of nice sized resorts for beginner and intermediates to cut their teeth and get some more experience.

Yes anybody can book through Wasteland. I did an organised trip with them as a student, but have also booked with them as a non-student :)

We've decided on Andorra due to price. Managed to get flights, transfers, nice accommodation, passes and ski hire all for £800. Doesn't sound that great BUT it's in February school half term! In France flights and pass alone is at least that at that time!

Happy in all, will be booking in a week or so if not soon.

Cheers for the help, I'll see how it goes :)

We are doing New Year week in Tignes this year for £445 (£650 inc lift pass)

2nd column is total, 3rd per person as there are 6 of us going.

We've used homeaway the last 3 times now. 2 years ago we only payed £70 each for a 6 person apartment!

Always do it this way, so much cheaper especially with us only being able to go outside of term time. Plus it's loads of dun driving down with a van full of mates in a 9 seater!

We are all only 16-17 so no-one can do that this year :(

Next year it's definitely happening though!

I've managed to get it to about £750-800 pp, which isn't half bad for half term! Also includes a day in barcelona at the end, and the accommodation is decent.
