Cheats should be available following inactivity on PC games

His remedy is to have cheats, so if you get stuck at 58% through a game and you just can't get past a certain bit.
I personally would prefer games to be much much harder than what is produced today. games of today are so easy, i mean in most games today the tutorial level is on all the time, sheesh kebab talk about holding ones hand, lol :D.

For all of your information:

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion wouldn't of been the same without the console!

The first thing I did when I loaded that game up was make myself invincible and give myself a 100 foot lightning spell that did a horrendous amount of damage!

Put it this way, I tested the flexibility of the rag-doll physics and the limits of my CPU!

Of course, I played the game properly. But I also had the mandatory - "Let's go on the rampage and pillage as much stuff as possible!" save game too!

Cheats are fun, especially when you've played AOE to death, Big Daddy and Photon man make them loads more fun, except when a Priest steals them.

The most recent game I cheated in was Crysis and thats only because the objectives failed to update so I couldn't end the level

You can easily make games as hard as you like with self-imposed rules.

'I will only pick up every OTHER health pack I see' 'I will only use the pistol and shotty, not the lazer gun' etc

Developers -- we're all bigboys now .. after 3 months lack-of-activity on a game, unlock us a load of cheats please so we can at least actually see the end bits of what we paid for.. this should be a standard thing ..

Big boys don't need to cheat.

If you are buying games and not finishing them its your fault, don't blame the developers for not making it even easier for the lazy unskilled bunch out there.

I don't see why people should have to give up on seeing a game through to completion just because they find it too hard. They probably bought that game because that's the game they wanted to play and enjoy. If they find it too hard, I don't see that they should have to move on to the next game rather than just turn on God mode for a bit.

I don't expect everyone here to find satisfaction and fulfilment by cheating through a game but ultimately, if someone else does, I don't see the harm and thus the reaction from people on here that they should take up new hobbies or watch games on YouTube instead.

What does it matter to anyone else whether someone uses a cheat to progress in a single player game? whether you would find it redundant is neither here nor there frankly is it, you're not the person playing the game who wants to use the cheat.

I'm just confused really why people seem so against an idea that has absolutely no impact on themselves.

Thank you for making this point. I do wonder at the objections some games have to things like this. Maybe Sleepery has a point:

Because some peoples main achievements in life are beating games, and if you take that away they have nothing left :D

While I'm not a fan of cheats I would liek to see something that picks up when the last time you played was. Something like 'Would you like a brief run through of the controls and the story again as it's been several months since you last played?'. Sometimes I go back to games months later and it takes me ages to get back into the 'groove'.

Best idea for modern games ever.

"previously on Mass Effect 2 / GTA4 / AC2...."

I might actually bother to put the DVD in and complete them if I could remember where the hell I left off last time

or you know just use cheats from a list or download a trainer.

after all you're a big boy you can find your own cheats.

but that's not really much fun.

the same stupid baddies with so little AI they may as well be the ghosts from pacman with endless repsawns and guns are no fun not matter what artificial and frustrating rules you put in.

^Actually I did exactly that for Quake2 because it got so easy on Hard+ difficulty. My rules were:

-No using Powerups
-No using the BFG
-No saving midlevel

Obviously this was in the days before I had Internet and was a student so couldn't afford to buy new games every week, nowadays I tend to want a much more casual approach and get through games quicker rather than replaying them on harder difficulty etc.

The 'timeline' idea sounds quite good, basically there could be checkpoints in the game that once past unlock some more of the story, so you can quickly catchup on what you've done previously. Something like the cartoons used between levels in Max Payne might work really well.

As for the original idea about cheats menu I think it would make things a lot easier, saving people having to research cheats and/or use Trainers which are a bit of a grey area in terms of legality.

What say you?

instead of hibernating the game up your rectum for 3 months you could use that time to l2p.

Lots of heat in this debate but surely it comes down to personal wishes? if somebody wants to complete the game quicker then its upto them and if somebody wants to complete the game how it was intended then that also is upto them?

If someone wants to complete a game and doesn't care how then I would have to say they don't quite understand why they bought the game in the first place. I dunno, perhaps they get xbox achievements for it and gamerscore is there life.
