Check out my workshop...

Pretty cool. :o

You could do with some network and kvm points on top of the work surface though.

Yep... I need a couple of cheap TFTs and as you say a KVM point.. It's nice to have the second PC though as it's means my personal one can be left alone.

It's lovely to have all that desk space to work on and there's plenty of room for upgrades.

lovely job! how is the repair business actually doing though if you dont mind me asking? so many pc repair business's seem to come and go in our area so i does'nt bode well from what ive seen.

At the moment it's slow with about 3 calls a week. However, this suits me at the moment as i'm still have a full time job. The idea is to see how much business I get and decide from there what to do. My plan is next year to go part time. So it's a bit chicken and egg at the moment.

Now that the workshop is complete, I can concentrate my efforts on advertising. I have a website and I'm in the yellow pages but I'm going to focus on a more aggressive campaign after easter. I have a £2500 budget to play with so hopefully that will at least get me a bigger ad in yellow pages and Thompson, web add in yell.com, a leaflet drop in the area, and postcards distributed in local shops etc.. We did a small leafelt drop in our local village before christmas and I was quite surprised at the response.

big tv, layzeboy chair, 360 padlock on inside.

i assume u have a suitable padlock on the outside too, security be top priority with the youth of today

That looks great, very different on the inside to what people would expect from the outside :)

We're just sorting out the floor in our garage at the moment, so we have a decent, flat surface on the workshop side (then it's benches for the tools and storage).

Thats really impressive Huddy.

What are the rules regarding being in full time employment as well as running your own business? IE: declaring taxes and NI and stuff?

I was thinking of doing the same as you. Starting a small PC repair business whilst also working, but am unsure where I stand.

Anyway, I hope it goes well for you. Its looks great. :)

Looks really good- a very professional job :) We're looking at doing something similar although ours will have a dwarf wall and a custom frame on the top due to space.

What did you use to cover the walls inside and are they plastered?

it's a very lightweight board with a mixed resin so it's quite strong.. got in from Wickes.. I was going to line the walls with lining paper but couldn't be bothered as at the end of the day.. it's just a shed/workshop. So I applied 2 coats of watered down emulsion before painting the walls. I stuck to weight because I think it looks brighter (obviously) and makes it look bigger.

By the way, my daughter aged 12 done most of the decorating. I thought being just a workshop, I thought it would be good experience for her. I done the glossing but she did most of the other work... I made the tea. :)

i think it's Ali V Liston.

good choice :D

It is.. I have another one on the side wall.

Note also the amount of outstanding work I have on the white board :D

I have done something similar in my garden. I wanted a woodworking workshop, so demolished the 2 old sheds I had in the corner of the garden, to make way for a 20ftx10ft heavy duty workshop shed. Got someone to clear the area for base, level the ground, put down 3 tonnes of MOT1 scalpings, 7 tonnes of sand and 94 600mmx600mmx50mm concrete slabs. Then the base was edged with kerbstones. Also had the power run from the house in 10mm2 armoured cable, buried 2ft under the ground.

Shed was then installed and since then has been insulated, boarded and wired up. Seeing how yours looks painted, I think I will do the same.
Just got to buy a bandsaw, dust and chip extractor and a planar thicknesser and I am away.

It is great having the space outside of the house though.

BTW what insulation did you use. I used Airtec Double which is basically sliver foil coated bubble wrap. Keeps the place nice and warm though.
