But tell me what else the immigrants would flock over here for, over than our soft spot, money, and dosey bints who would otherwise be incapable of getting a piece of man.
Okay. I can only tell you why it was that my parents came to this country and settled, from India.
My father was 8yrs of age. He was a descendent of the Royal Family, hence money was not a problem. His father thought it would be a good idea for him to get a British education. Keep in mind that a British education is always seen as something to be proud of in India, even though, I have been to an Indian school and its standard is VASTLY higher than anything offered in this country, but I digress.
He was sent to Britain and attended boarding school. Money was not a problem here.
At the age of 18, after his A-levels, he decided that he would get a job.
He started to work, all the time thinking about returning back to India.
He got in a rut (as we all do) and before you know it, years went by and it was time for him to get married.
He married my mother, arranged from India. She was also descended from Royal blood (its how it works there, Royals generally marry Royals to keep the bloodline pure, blah blah blah).
My mum wanted to see what life was like in England, so after the marriage, my father, with my mother, came back to England.
My father continued to work, my mother also got a job, but after having 2 children, became a housewife.
At this point (1972), my parents decided to return to India and settle. They had had enough of life in England, working for a living, etc. India offered a vastly more cushy lifestyle.
With 2 children, they returned to India. They already had 2 houses (or mansions, that were given to them as wedding presents). They lived there for a year. During that year, my father grew bored of life in India. The people there were totally different. Life was totally different to what he had grown used to. For example, to withdraw (a large amount of) money from a bank, it wasnt as simple as going to a bank and writing a withdrawal slip, handing it to the cashier and taking the money -- in India, you would have to speak to the bank manager, who would buy you soft drinks, chat to you for 30 mins, before arranging for the money to be given to you. Some banks in India, even close earlier than advertised, on a whim. Other times, the electricity will go out at random times. During this time, you will have to light candles and wait for it to return. These little things made life difficult for my father.
12 months later, my parents returned. They got jobs and continued the life they had previously lived in England.
I can go on, but I feel that this post would get far too long. What I will say is that in 1983, for 3yrs, I lived in India, where once again, my family tried to settle in India, but to no avail. It just didnt work. We were seen as foriegners in our country of origin. During this time, I also found out just how bad the schooling in England is, in comparison to the education offered in India, but thats another story.
Throughout these years, my father's main responsibility was to his children and wife. At no stage did he send money back to his parents/relatives in India - they were/are well taken care of (you should see the mansions they live in, it will make you sick).
So, I hope that gives you an alternative view as to why foriegners immigrate to England. And remember, a lot of immigrants do come from good, wealthy families who are not in England to send money out of this country. As it happens, the richest man in England (Lakshmi Mittal) happens to be Indian. He made his money in India and now has a home in London. Now, who wouldve thought, eh???
