Ordered my equipment on a next business day delivery and the City Link driver closed it off as nobody home - girlfriend has been calling all day in a paranoid fashion wondering where her PC was and at 4:07pm today a City Link driver says he arrived at our door and tried our buzzer and nobody was home. I called her up at 4:20 to check and she says she's been home the entire day and nobody has buzzed at all! "Carded" it says despite no card being left (apparently "We don't leave cards at flat buildings as anyone could pick them up" - so why say "Carded" on your website?!). Since we're not home on Monday I have to shell out with a Saturday Delivery fee. Very disappointed, especially that I have to pay the cost of this. Especially suspicious when I said "Can we bring the driver back?" and the girl at City Link said "No, I know this driver has been running extremely late today and he won't be able to make a lot of his deliveries" - I imagine at the end of the day when he had to carry a large, heavy box up three flights of stairs he thought "Sod it" and just took off.

Think this'll be the last time I shop at any place that uses City Link for their next business day deliveries. Heaven forbid I'd get late & lazy driver #2482608 again.

Girlfriend very annoyed she took a day off to get this treatment.

I`ve had the same happen to me by City Link, stayed in all day only to check the online status of my delivery to find it saying that nobody was home when they called.

Not a good service at all. Will be watching this thread to see how you get on. Hope you get a free weekend delivery.

Thats a shame - nothing worse than something not turning up.

To be fair though I get a lot of deliveries from CityLink and never had a problem with them but I think it does depend on the depot they are coming from but our local one is very good.

DHL on the otherhand are terrible - worst company ever! I have had them mess up all the deliveries they have ever tried to make to me. Apparently I live in the wrong part of Scotland according to DHL?????

Hope you get your stuff.

The only times I ever get my deliveries on time from City Link are when I order Saturday deliveries - and I think that's because they all go out on pre1200 deliveries then. And, obviously, Saturday deliveries are more expensive, so I suppose they (City Link) think they have to encourage people to use the more expensive option by discouraging people from using the cheaper option. They do this by providing crap service for it. :(

Not sure about other regions, I'm in Edinburgh though.

I will get my stuff tomorrow, I'm sure. But at the cost of a Saturday Delivery + Next Business Delivery + one less holiday for my girlfriend.

Had the same problem myself, ordered the parts for my new build yesterday and have been waiting all day, today for my order. Hasnt arrived and looks like it wont. Really dont like city link as their service is usually poor.

Should go with Business Post. They deliver the stuff for my work (Computacenter, we supply IT equipment to businesses), and they have a 'HomeServe' option for delivering to homes as well. Very efficient and I don't remember a time where they've screwed up for us, even when delivering to obscure portocabins hidden around railways out in the middle of nowhere.

Same problem with City Link. Of the three or four orders I've made from OCUK (and even more from other companies that also ship through CityLink) there has only been once where I've gotten the package without hassle.

They usually say we've been carded (even though no card is ever left) because nobody is home. The problem with that is that our flat's buzzer is connected to our phone line and not only do I work from home but have the phone sitting on my desk.

I even caught them one time.
I was walking my g/f to the front door of the building. When we opened it, it was a City Link driver who had just turned around to walk away. Seeing a box roughly the size of what I was ordering and knowing it should arrive that day, I asked him which flat he was trying to deliver to. It was mine.. the ******* never even bothered trying to ring the flat. He said he couldn't get the buzzer to work. I tested it right after and it worked fine.

I'm ordering two £1500 systems next month and am having second thoughts about ordering them through OCUK just because of the delivery hassles. The least they could do is have an alternative delivery company. Heck, even Royal Mail is ten times better than City Link.

Further - Don't ever even try calling City Link. I rang quite literally 30-40 times one day before we actually had someone answer the phone. Then they weren't helpful at all.

Watch your language.

I feel for all of you as well. In fact (and i hope someone from the shop reads this) i hav'nt ordered anything from OC/UK for months and months, and as long as they insist on using Citylink i won't be ordering anything. My experience of them has been continual non delivery, on the due day, as well as an habitual habit of lying about the reason for non delivery (no one home). My wife does not work, so she always stays in until a parcel is delivered. Also as has been mentioned they say they have ticketed, when of course they hav'nt (because they never even bothered to come to the door in the first place). In my experience the best method of delivery from a customers point of view is Royal Mail, and until i'm offered that option, i'll simply buy elsewhere.

City Link are terrible, Ive had the delivery has been carded when I've been in all day and they haven't bothered to turn up, trying to get hold of the depot by phone to arrage any sort of redelivery is a nightmare. Parcels bashed about and packaging dented (only accepted after checking the contents).

I wish there was a choice for Royal Mail, on other e-tailers there sometime is and I dont mind paying extra for it to come via Parcel Force. If Im out and delivery is missed is either a round trip of about 60miles to scunthorpe from lincoln to collect from the Citylink depot, or a 5 min trip into town to pick it up from the post office with Parcel force - I know what I prefer.

A interesting litlle story about Citylink, a friend of mine went to the depot to pick up their items, and the guy went off to find the stuff and about 40 mins later returns saying it took him so long cos the items were hard to find in the warehouse.....which was odd because the items in question were 4 tyres for Supra - hardly something small you can misplace

That has to be crap, you need ID to accompany a delivery card anyway

With every logistic company some people will have problems but the majority will be satisfied.

I used to work for a company who done mail order/internet ordering and no matter what company was used you will always get problems. That includes BE (now Home Shopping something), PF, CityLink, DHL etc. The best service IMO is Special Delivery but that is costly.

I get CityLink deliveries a lot (at least 1-2 a week) and I have never had a problem for the record.

This doesn't fill me with hope. Ordered last night from OCUK and paid for the Saturday delivery. The thing is I live in a small village called Singleton which is 1 mile from Goodwood which is having its annual "Festival of Speed". This means tens of thousands of extra cars going through the village

I did ring Citylink earlier in the day and they assured me the delivery would be met, after reading this I am seriously worried!

It's the typical complaint thread though, only people who will reply are those who have had a bad experience.
I've only ever had one bad experience with Citylink, it meant I had to take an extra day off work but there must have been some sort of trouble, not deliberate...
The majority of stuff I've ordered has arrived on time and early on in the day. :)

I'd say it's better than the previous service that was used a couple of years back, Amtrak maybe? Didn't rate them too highly.

had exactly the same problem twice. Always on a friday, but theve always delivered early on the sat morning when theve pulled the "no one was home (carded)" trick

This is why we need a choice, I guess theres lots of people out there for whom Citylink are great, always deliver on time, local depot etc. For some people Royal Mail are better, others find royal mail is rubbish for them. Just allow us a choice at the point we order, all prices on every major etailer are listed without shipping anyway, so give us the choice and let us choose our preferred delivery method and cost.... don't force me to use Citylink because they give the vendor kick backs on shipping cost because of the number of parcels you send via them or whatever, some of us are prepared to pay a premium for a better service......

See a lot if these threads all full of posts saying the same thing about city link, makes you wonder how companys survive when they act the way thay do, still so long as companys use them we will continue to get poor service, saying that you only generally hear whats bad, very rarely good, although a few people on here have great service from them.

End of the day its not OcUK's fault obviously, but it really puts a big ? on all orders i make, im sure its the same for others. If i had the cash I would reckon setting up a rival to city link would be an instant success...... but theres not a rival really, and i'm poor  So guess, we will just have to make do, lol even city link is better than going to a local purple place.

In the meantime.... Royal Mail for the win :p

EDIT: In fact if only they could deliver to local post offices for pick up that would be great, i dont mind picking up from depot, but an hours journey (two hours return) is a bit of a joke tbh
