As predicted, he has been disappeared. Finding and charging him would be too embarrassing for the authorities, showing up the flaws in the immigration system and the fact he had committed sexual offences in the UK prior to being granted asylum.

That was faster than expected, the "it's a cover up".
If anything it's likely to create more noise and speculation than if they'd managed to get him, as once someone is arrested the news has to be much more careful about what they say in case it affects a trial.

After all you can sell an awful lot of newspapers to some people if you can fill it with enough lurid nonsense and you know the person you're talking about isn't going to be able to complain about the stories. It makes it even easier than the normal nonsense stories some papers love, as they won't have to worry about things that are inconvenient such as actually having sources as they can just make stuff up.
And yes I have an exceptionally low opinion of most of the British tabloid press, it comes from having spent decades seeing them in action.

I honestly don’t think there was any cover up, people in charge couldn’t cover up their own arses these days….
I think the problem was likely that because he just disappeared, there was so much cctv footage to churn through - it’s simply taken a long time.
I can’t feasibly see him being “out and about” with an injury like that, without being seen somewhere, or being ratted out.

It's the world's least successful cover up when it is public knowledge that he was a convicted criminal still granted asylum following a sham conversion to Christianity.
A friend of mine is a police officer who used to patrol the Thames. They’d pull bodies out of the river most days.

Main reason(s) I recall the RNLI mentioning were :-
A significant portion of it is tidal, making it much harder to swim in / against than an "inland river".
Lots of underwater hazards and floating / semi-submerged debris that can easily hit / entangle a swimmer.
It's bloody cold, even in summer. Cold water shock can set in within minutes of hitting the water in winter.
It's got a lot of effluent in it, which while that may not be immediately life threatening, can make a person very unwell.
And ofc depending on "which part" of the Thames, it can be quite busy with large river traffic that cannot stop easily if you get in their way.
