Chess club

This sounds really good. Looks very sociable and brilliant fun. It's exactly the kind of gaming that I like.

I just really suck at chess.
Doesn't matter. It's still fun to play and if you play on chess.com there's an option to play a 'balanced game' where the player with a higher rating has pieces removed from the board. It works quite well to allow players with different levels of experience play each other and keeps it interesting.

By the way, are you guys aware of the offline chess GUI Arena? Literally google "Arena chess gui". It is a *free* gui for multiple popular chess engines so you can practice against them. Can be configured to match your approximate rating so as not to get instantaneously thrashed, Stockfish being one of the most popular and strong. Can also download fancy looking chess sets and boards etc to make it look nice. Although I don't really play that much chess myself, I do like to watch the "Chess with Suren" and Agadmator chess youtube channels, Suren in particular, "Hello chess lovers"
No, but sounds interesting, I'll give it look.

Let’s see if this works. Just played a game where I was on the ropes and managed to pull off a win with some great teamwork between my knight and my queen.

I'm black

Nice moves and come back. That pawn way into your opponents side also really helped.

@rangor gubbins Thanks for the game. Sorry for my abrupt resignation, I was having a bad day, and realised I was in a bit of a pickle .

It started well and somewhere in the middle I just fell of the board! You have so many ways to defend it's crazy, I never felt I could break you down.
No worries at all. Good game. Thought I had ballsed it up for a while but managed to claw it back. Once the queens were off the board I found things got easier.

@rangor gubbins You really do play a hard game, very tricky for myself to read! The very early attack with the Queen and Bishop was a little scary, I had to really think of ways that wouldn't open my position to be mated in 1, until I could kick you out. When you castled, I thought I was heading towards a win, I felt pretty good after seeing that.

When I checked your King with my Queen, I was calculating you to either move the King or block with the Knight, giving me an easy Bishop. I comepletely didn't see the Bishop move coming, which threw me off. I didn't think you'd take my Queen with your Queen either.

Then when we got the big trade offs, I missed the chance of taking the Bishop that was attacking my Rook with my own Bishop. I was was just looking at your Bishop attacking my Rook on the next move, completely overlooked I was attcking you. Then everything went downhill pretty quickly.
Yeah, sorry about the early attack with the queen and bishop. I didn't think you would miss it and give me an early win, but I thought it might make you make a mistake and give me a piece or two. You didn't though!
You played really well and were in a better position than me for most of the game. As you said, it didn't quite work out at the end though and I managed to do some damage with the bishops.
Good game.
