Chess

i play a lot on chess.com, but get the feeling I am playing against more and more bandits that are running an engine on the side so they never lose. I got spanked by someone with a 740ish elo rating and he was pulling moves that there were both odd and totally off the chart. So some moves looked like total beginer mistakes and then comeback with a do you want a game kasparov like strategy. Might just be high rated players running alts, but its' hard to tell
Shall we have a game?
I'm on chess.com as Mr-W. I usually play daily 1 or 3 day per move, but can sometimes do a 10 min rapid.

I'd recommend Lichess as well as Chess.com. Lichess is open source. There's a long running rivalry between the two providers, with Lichess being open source ('Libre'chess, afterall).

The current Chess.com interface is only good because a long while ago, Lichess had a better one, and took a big chunk of traffic. Chess.com then rewrote their frontend.

I gave Lichess a go. The main difference seems to be it allows me to have a higher ELO rating and I can't figure out how to make sense of their analysis engine.

It must have been a long time since Chess.com updated their user interface as I've been playing there since 2018 and I don't remember it changing much in that time

I remember taking it as a compliment once when my opponent accused me of using an engine.

They wouldn't stay at 740 for very long if they were using an engine. When you're at that level the problem is most players aren't looking at the weaknesses in their position.

Players at all levels make mistakes though, I remember watching a game of Levy/Gotham and noticed he missed winning material with a knight fork and I'm about 1000 ELO below him.
