Ok, I am looking for the Y shaped ones, not the usual 3/5 spring with a handle at either end.

Anyone know where I can buy one?

All I seem to find is the type I don't want, I have seen some on ebay that I am watching but I would like to buy new if possible.

Thanks.

He means what do you want to achieve body image/ strength wise, because what ever it is you probably won't get very far with a "Chest Expander".

You weren't getting grilled, you would have got some good advice that would have helped you realise chest expanders are a waste of time.

this forum is becoming a complete drag of people with their condescending views and refusal to help without trying to belittle people's idea's.

lets see, chest expanders, resistance, yes, work a muscle group, yes, whats wrong with that? most efficient way to gain muscle mass, no, so what, maybe he hasn't the room for freeweights, maybe he's got an injury to a specific muscle/area and chest expander will help him target that one area when freeweights would offer a lot more danger of repeat or worsening injury. There are many reasons for using specific equipment for targeting a specific area and being a tit without knowing why he wants to use one is just that, being a tit.

Why not if you know the answer to his question, tell him the answer and thats it. If you don't know don't post.

The attitude to anyone on these forums who doesn't come in and ask what the best bench/weights set is for doing squats is awful to be honest. Likewise the attitude to anything that a core group of users feels isn't for them.

Its simple my opinion is chest expanders aren't particularly useful and I'd perfer to do other exercises for chest developement, but I can recognise there are other reasons for targeting one muscle group and various reasons they can be of great use so I didn't jump in this thread with the intention of belittling the guy, maybe this forum would be less irritating and more helpful if you at least tried to consider the possible reasons why he might be asking before deciding you want to show him up.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Maybe the know it all's will keep out in future.

Or it could be that someone offered the OP help in the first reply and he was sarky back so everyone immediately realised that he wasnt going to listen to anyones advice which may have been a better alternative to a chest expander.

If the OP needs to use a chest expander for a specific reason then surely he could have replied with the reasons why or even included it in his original post.

The way I see it, if you ask for help on a forum you're asking other people to do something for you, so if they feel the need to ask further questions becsue they may be able to give you better advice then that's their right. This is a free discussion board, not AQA.

Ok, lets see...

this forum is becoming a complete drag of people with their condescending views and refusal to help without trying to belittle people's idea's.

eh?

lets see, chest expanders, resistance, yes, work a muscle group, yes, whats wrong with that? most efficient way to gain muscle mass, no, so what, maybe he hasn't the room for freeweights
maybe it is, maybe it isnt...

what are you trying to achieve?

that question is to find out why he would like one, which could be answered with 'no space'

maybe he's got an injury to a specific muscle/area and chest expander will help him target that one area
Indeed, he might have an injury,

what are you trying to achieve?

that question could be answered with 'well, im injured and looking to slowly get back into things' or whatever.

There are many reasons for using specific equipment for targeting a specific area and being a tit without knowing why he wants to use one is just that, being a tit.
NO WAI!!!

what are you trying to achieve?

maybe thats trying to find out?

Why not if you know the answer to his question, tell him the answer and thats it. If you don't know don't post.
I will be honest here, the OP will need a damn good reason to need a chest expander, most reasons will be crap, what I was trying to do was find out more about the needs of the user, to see if there is something better than can be suggested...

what?

The first reply in this thread was:

what are you trying to achieve?

Is that not trying to consider the possible reasons, by actually asking for reasons or what is actually wanted, so that myself or others can be helpful?

This forum is generally nothing but helpful, be it to the very small, in middle guys or even the larger people.

Tbh I am fed up with some of the posters here, this is the 2nd time (recently) that someone has jumped on me when all I am trying to do is be helpful.
It's happening more and more to other users as well. I can see why some other people (known and respected) have stopped offering help here these days.

People who give help do it for one reason, to help. I don't expect people to even say thankyou these days, however, being slated for helping is just a joke.

this forum is becoming a complete drag of people with their refusal to help

refusal to help? **** off.

**** knows lol, no point these days it seems :/

Sorry but bs, he asked where to get a specific product, not for your advice on if he should use one or not its really that simple. yes you could argue your first response isn't sarcastic, except it was, you know what you were leading to, everyone in this thread knows you were leading him into the "I want uber big chest muscles man" answer so you can come back with all the reasons why chest expanders aren't as good as freeweights, then someone can make a funny retort about how the op probably has 5 protein shakes a day to go along with his chest expander, etc, etc.

How do I know, because thats how every thread around here goes. How else do I know, because the very next post after his reply knew exactly what you meant aswell, that you'd get at the point that they are useless in your opinion. As others in the thread eluded to they are useless, like ab machines, in their opinions because you all jumped on the guy without knowing if it would or wouldn't be useless.

The point is the guy asked where to get it, he didn't ask for a detailed idea of how they work or if he should use one. He asked a simple question he didn't ask you to go out of your way to find one or make an unreasonable request, it was simple if you knew where to get one its next to no effort for you to tell him where. If you don't know, fine, if you do know, great, there is no request for anything else.

Maybe the guy doesn't have an injury, doesn't know how useless they can be for building leg muscles, maybe he doesn't know how great squats are, maybe he eats 40lbs of protein a day and is dying of kidney failure, none of that changes the fact he wants a smegging chest expander and asked a simple question.

Yes you'll argue all day till you're blue in the face that that isn't where you were leading him, that you wanted to be great and fantastic and help him achieve the perfect body, but experience of every other damn thread in this forum tells me thats crap. As do the majority of replies in this thread.

you'd have a leg to stand on, IF he asked if they were useful and then you asked useful for what, what were his goals, but he didn't.

So so wrong. If i was going to do that then I would have just told him to **** off and do something worthwhile.

cba even reading the rest of your post tbh, waste of 2 mins.

all i wanted to do was help, don't see the issue. wont bother.
