BBC News said:
Parents in England who regularly look after friends' children and receive a "reward" for doing so must register as childminders, regulator Ofsted says.
It said most parents would be exempt but those who babysat for more than two hours at a time, or for more than 14 days per year, should be registered.
The "reward" could be money or free baby-sitting in return, it said.

The warning comes after Ofsted told two policewomen to end an arrangement to care for each other's children.
According to the Mail on Sunday, Ofsted told two detective constables, Leanne Shepherd, from Milton Keynes, and Lucy Jarrett, from Buckingham, to end their arrangement.

Words really can't describe how stupid this is.

I can't wait till I graduate. I'm going to find a job abroad. I don't care if the pay is low.
ANYTHING must be better than here.

I can 100% honestly say I'm not proud to be British.

Hang on a minute.

If it's free baby sitting in return I don't have an issue, they don't need to register.

If it's money in return then yes, of course they should. They'd need to be state registered child minders.

I read this earlier. You'd think they'd forget meddling in minutiae until they'd sorted more pressing and universal issues. Talk about creating problems in order to provide a solution.

They just need to tweak it, that's all. In essence this particular law is fine.

I'll bet anyone that those people looking after kids for money, but not registered are also not paying tax.

There used to be a saying

"It takes a village to raise a child"

I trust this nonsense rule will be ignored by all sensible people. People that make a profit *should* be registered, but friends and family helping out is a proper part of bringing up a child imo.

Unfortunately you do have to register, even if it is free babysitting in return.

It's a bit silly really tbh. Maybe a little over the top.

I bet there will be complaints if every mother and father who does babysit, registered all at once, and they don't have the staff required for the demands.

Why though? They pay tax on their earnings whether they are registered or not just like any other sole trader.

Because if they are running this as a business they are probably looking after children who they would not normally come into contact with.

It could even be parents who see their advert in a newspaper and want to use their services. These people need to be registered so they can be CRB checked. You don't want unregulated and unchecked people looking after children. They could literally be sex offenders.

If its friends and family, you already know their history and backgrounds, so i think things can be more informal. There is a loophole there of course in that a peadophile could offer services for free, but you have to expect people to have some common sense.

Well that's somewhat different to "people who make a profit", which would include family and friends. ;)

People don't normally make a profit out of family and friends in my experience. Cover costs perhaps, but not make a living. You have to draw the line somewhere, and that seems a sensible place to me.

Why? that is ridiculous. if it's your extended family say a niece or something and you give them a bit of money to babysit. They should register. Come on. It is utterly retarded.
