Chinese Grand Prix 2013, Shanghai - Race 3/19

The vast majority of people that watch F1 (note, I do not say 'fans') don't follow to the same extent as most here. They don't listen to drivers during the week, they don't watch practice - h3ll, most of them don't even watch qualifying. They turn on a few minutes before the race, watch it and then turn off halfway through the interviews.

One set of those fans - the majority - would have tuned in to watch a great race in Shanghai.

F1 'fans' are unlikely to ever be as happy as they want with F1's rules and establishment. And that is part of what is F1!

Ahhh yes, it was damn hard to follow. We had a large viewing screen, bu even then the main details were too small for all but those with the best eyesight.

Plenty of the girls were asking me who was where, what was happening etc, but even me as the F1 keeno of the group was a bit stuck.

It all added to the excitement though.

I think most on here would assume that Alonso is perhaps the main/closest rival who can challenge Vettel for his championship (certainly last year and looking like it this year).

I think its very ironic that Alonsos last win before the one on Sunday... was 14 races ago.

I can see Lotus being the same as last year, consistent, but not quite there.

Mercedes are having a good run, but again I can't see them keeping pace with Newey and Alonso.

I still think it will boil down to Vettel vs Alonso again, hopefully to another final race showdown. The only things I can see going wrong are Massa starting to take the fight to Alonso and causing him to wobble, and Vettel having to do it all on his own as Webber is not going to be helping him (not because of Malaysia, but because Webber has never helped him). Hamilton came 3rd in Sundays race because when Alonso went past, Massa did too and created just enough buffer for just long enough to put Hamilton in the reach of Kimi. I cannot see Webber a) being close enough to Vettel to do that, and b) wanting to be a buffer between Vettel and his rivals.

The first few laps of China were a shame for Hamilton. The front cars were so evenly matched on pace, he just couldnt get that 1 second lead (presumably without destroying the tyres completely) in the first few laps and he was simply a sitting duck on the straights with everyone else behind him haveing DRS :(

In fact i wonder if he might have been better of qualifying 2nd or 3rd.

No since he'd more than likely have gone backwards still plus the Ferrari's were quicker on Sunday.

He got done by pitting later which was a shame. Merc did it best and neither lost time.

That reminds me, I need to do the result for China in the Moral World Drivers Championship. I think Webber's going to be on the podium at least. Remind me, though, was Kimi's nose job his own fault?

From what i saw it looked pretty clear that perez was pushing him wide, and not giving the space.

Remembering back to monza last year, vettel got a drive through for doing pretty much the same to alonso.... i would call it 90/10 at best

I'm amazed at how much merc have improved. They have been consistently fast over all the races so far and just lacking that little bit to challenge for the win. Such big improvement from last season.

It's good to have 4 teams/drivers in the mix as well.
