Chinese Pyramids

When I was a young man in t'70's I used to collect all sort of books on UFO's, conspiracies etc and some of you know that I am now not a believer in this sort of stuff.
However, one of the books I had was about Chinese Pyramids that was basically a myth because WW2 pilots had flew over China and seen them from the air but couldn't pinpoint the location.
We move forward 30 odd years and with the coming of the t'internet and especially Google Earth, the pyramids are plain to see.
I did see web pages in the late 90's that made me sway towards belief.

do you have anymore information. are they man made, like egyption ones or something else?

how long have they been arround?

Historically China is well known for things like the Great Wall of China, its dynastic rulers and of course it superb china ware. It is not very well known for its Pyramids, well China has a large number of pyramids, possibly over a 100. Most of them are located in a 70-mile area around the city of Xi'an. This has mostly been unknown by the outside world, thou as china opens up this may change.

Are these pyramids extending from the ground upwards? Cause from the looks of the picture (although may just be google Earth...they look to going into the ground...inverted so to say

apparently, though i dont know for sure, china has the worlds largest pryamid, or did for a very long time, as apposed to mexico, which is commonly believed. ancient chinese were way ahead of their times.

I was under this impression to, im sure i read about a massive sub-teranian pyramid that only extends a couple dosen meters above the ground but in reality it has submerged and was origonaly many hundreds of feet high

if its submerged so much, that must mean it was built centuries and centuries ago.

There was a fascinating documentary on CH4 a few months ago about China's First Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Google him and read about him because there were a lot of myths about his burial chamber and they know where it is but its covered in millions of tons of earth. The Terracotta Army is next to the hill/chamber.
Loads of archaeologists/scientists took part in a massive survey on the mound using sonar techniques and they now know what it looks like underneath the mound. One of the myths was that he was buried with rivers of mercury around him and the analysis of the soil proves this to be true. The chances of it being uncovered is nil though

I suspect that the pic has been inverted (presumably by Google Earth) and what you are getting is a common optical illusion.

But I was under the impression that most of the big ancient civilisations build pyramids? If you want to build a big object, and you've not invented cement yet, pyramids are your only choice.

Hm, interesting. My girlfriend's in Xi'an at the moment actually, not sure how long she'll be hanging around there (it's damn hot :eek:

), but I'll email and ask about these. Last I knew she was melting, but if she can get herself to move around a bit she'll certainly be interested..

I do recall watching a discovery channel program about this pyramid that they found in china that had been designed into the landscape in such a way that you weren't actually aware it was there. I know this sounds bizarre but i'm fairly positive that's what I watched. May have been a program about the tombs relating to the terracotta warriors.

Oh and they have found one in bosnia too apparently. Seems pyramids are ten a penny

Just did a search of Digiguide to see if anybody is showing The First Emperor and on its on CH4 tomorrow night.
This really is a must see for anybody into ancient history & archaeology.
Get you recorders on.
