Chip Shops

I may be being really thick, but is this not trying to stop people pointing to the larger fillets and saying "I'll have that one".
It's not saying you get charged for specifying cod or haddock etc.....

What is wrong with that though tbh.... If you're selling a product that varies in size and quality then its only natural, where you chose to display the product, that customers will chose which specific product they want to buy. To charge for this as an extra service is a bit cheeky.

Imagine a second hand car dealer selling BMW 3 series - you can specify a 3 series BMW but you can't choose the exact 3 series out the 5 he has on show unless you pay an extra fee for the 'privilege' of choosing.

I guess with the fish shop you could always ask for Cod and if they happen to give you some manky, scrawny specimen of a fish when there are larger ones present then tell them you've changed your mind.

The owner must be a dab hand at making a profit.

unlikely tbh.. - prob a grumpy old man who often makes skanky looking fish which sit there all evening before being thrown in the bin as his customers chose to buy the ones he's managed to not screw up.

How about if you ask what fish your getting and if its the one you wanted your up 30p.

If not ask for it to be changed and be down 30p?

If each 3 series was identical it wouldn't matter because they are all the same so there is no point paying more to choose.

Same applies to the fish. It's unlikely all are identical hence paying extra to "pick one out"

This is THE SAME as the dead pixel checks that some tech sellers offer! You've got a bigger chance of getting a poorer quality monitor/fish because customers might have taken the seller up on the deal :(

That's why it is profiteering.
