Chipped 1.8 Zetec Focus

Thats optimistic and assuming the engine is in good nick, all installed preperly with follwers etc and properly mapped.

As for the De-cat, can be a lot of hassle come MOT for very litttle gain.

Well Burton power suggest using a 94-96 2.0 Mondeo ecu with it, so one would assume it is a good map for it. Plus no reason why the cam wouldn't be installed properly, not exactly the hardest thing ever to do.

Only a few bolts to take the cat off, hardly much effort once a year.

Edit - I don't really see how the cams can be seen as opitimistic, if Ford themselves only changed the cam and map, then rated it 15ps higher. :p I have put both a 1.8 TB and a 2.0 TB next to each other, the 2.0 really is quite a bit larger, and with the cam asking for more air in, it must help, as afterall why did Ford use a larger one on the 2.0? Then with the manifold and decat, you seen what a stock manifold on the 1.8 does? It goes directly up and tightly bends downwards, really bad for flow, the aftermarket ones just go straight down, some are 4-2-1 aswel, another thing that helps.

The blokes asking if the Cams will damage the gear box, would imagine with this kind of mech knowledge setting the tone, home brew workshop work will be out the question, hence why I priced up on Garage Fit.

Thus swapping a few bolts may be too much effort.

That is true. :)

Cat-Back, 4-2-1 manifold, stage 2 cams, pulleys and a remap using something like dreamscience will get you around 150bhp 160, someone with a similar setup was getting 150 without a remap! But that would cost around £2k I had the cams and pulleys ready to go in but decided for that much money I could put it towards a new car, with twice as much power and cost the same on insurance. Getting it just chipped or using bluefin is a complete waste of money on an n/a focus.

£2k to get to 150bhp... fail :(

Like the others said, not worth it :)

You could maybe drop a "performance" panel filter in which will help breathing a bit. Apart from that I probably wouldn't bother.

lol lol lol and lol

1) Save the 1k-2k you will spend on getting cams, remap etc and put it towards a quicker car

1k-2k what were u expect him to have to do, you can get a whole brand new 2.0 zetec engine of "the bay" for 3k.

I have just bough cams, manifold, down pipe, ST170 snorkel, air deflector, throttle body, cone filter and did the lot for £200 and all stuff is like new after spending a few minutes care on them. I also have the 1.8 so about 115bhp. I am expect over 140 by time done the lot and would be well pleased with 150 tho that is bit unrealistic really!

Tbh its also about how much more fun it is as well. So far only done the induction side of things and there is more throttle response, revs more freely and sounds much nicer (no not chav either!) so even if the numbers dont go up loads to impress you lot then for £200 i am gonna get so much more out the car. But as for proof of power i am gonna do a power run before and after so we can all see if anything happens at all lol :P

At 18 the insurance must be costing you a fair whack to begin with. If you added the mods mentioned in this thread I would imagine you would have a hard job even getting a quote. Far better to just save the money and drive the focus for a few years, after all I think the focus has enough power for somebody who has only been driving for a few years at most.

£1400 a year (3rd Party, F&T) - Quite a lot yeah... But pretty reasonable considering last year a Fiat Seicento Sporting 1.1 cost me £1900 LOL :P The joys of young driving....

I paid £750 Fully Comp and I'm 18 :D.

1.6 though but not much in between the two :)

Can get insured on the 2.0 for a few hundred more

And how are you going to match the fueling to the modified engine?

fit some vtec to your zetec lump,

then you can have a shed load of power(but no torqs)
