If worse comes to the worse, you can just stick the cams in on the stock ECU, it will be perfectly safe, just won't reach maximum power from the cams.

And I don't see how an ECU designed for a 2.0L engine will also correctly fuel a 1.8L engine in the same state of tune. Bit pointless spending time and money if you end up with half a job. The ideal OEM ECU would be one from the 130bhp Escort, except the PATS imobiliser is not compatible.
