Hey guys, I'm a bit of a n00b with computers lol and was wondering if you could help me... :)

I've got a new laptop, only bout 4 months old and this week it has randomly shut itself down a few times. After the 1st time it did it, It restarted fine but now everytime its starts up it runs the CHKDSK check or something then starts up fine again!

Why would it do this and is there any thing I should be concerned about ?

thanks

try putting your windows disk in the laptop, boot from disk and run the repair console, type "chkdsk /r" without quotation marks and hit enter, this should fix the issue

if it cant find the HDD you may need to change the HDD to compatability mode via BIOS, I know that I have to do this at work with the Toshiba U400

Ripped from another site to save me typing :)

1. click on your start menu and open the run dialog.
2. type "cmd" and return (note: dont enter quotes)
3. Next type "fsutil dirty query c:"
4. If the return message indicates that the volume is dirty go to step 5
5. Next type "chkdsk c: /f /x"
6. After that finshes repeat step 3.
7. If it is no longer dirty then reboot and you should notice no more
ckdisk.

when i try doing ^ it gets as far as saying c: is dirty then this happens when i try the next step :
