choking on steak

Like me mum used to say, chew your food properly young man. And get the wife to learn the Heimlich maneuver :)

Its not called that any more.

The great-granddaughter of the guy who came up with it and named it decided she wanted royalties for each time it was printed and said.

So the up and changed the name to Abdominal Thrusts.

True fact.

i dont eat cheap steak brother, that would be a sin

Whilst Sirloin is not a cheap cut, it is a very dense cut with little fat and plenty of connective tissue. It does not lend itself well to fast cooking at high temperatures so if you have just shown your meat to the flame (tee hee), then there is a fair chance you haven't been chewing it properly. Sear it on a griddle pan then get it in the oven for 10 mins.

I nearly died on a bit of pepperami in canteen at high school passed out and lips went blue till my mate jumped on my stomach lol. Now that's embarrassing and have never eaten one again :p

I once choked on an ice cube when I was a kid. Was in the bar with my dad, everyone in the place was panicking as I was in a bad way. Luckily the ice cube melted before I croked it and all was well :)

On a very serious note, this happened to my brother-in-law not two weeks ago. The meat had become lodged in his oesophagus, which he then tore having vomited continuously for an hour and a half before arriving at the hospital.

Apparently the oesophagus will contract around the foreign body to try and remove it, which can damage it. It can be very serious indeed, the doctor explained, as if it continues to contract and release, it can rupture the oesophagus completely.

Who knew.

Anyway he had to have an endoscopy to push it down into his stomach. It had made a small tear but wasn't bleeding so should heal up swiftly.

A guy who I go to uni with choked on a piece of steak last Wednesday. This was in a public place and nobody was helping him, turns out he dislodged it himself but only after rolling on the floor in distress for a minute. His eyes are very blood shot now.
