At the moment i'm paying £23 for a 1mb uncapped line with Pipex. I've had the line 3 years and wasn't worried about the cost as work was paying for it.

The BB is on a second phone line which i want to cancel now as i'm not with the same employer and so i'm on the hunt for a new ISP.

I was looking forward to the good deal with sky, but the nightmare stories i've heard are really putting me off.

I don't need massive speeds, in fact 2mb would be fine but i do need good pings for gaming and for the line to be uncapped. This usually means having to go to a 8/16mb line anyway.

The other strange thing is that i've done the online speed tests for the 2 lines in my house. The original line can have up to 3mb and the new one i had put in a year or 2 ago can have 5mb :confused:

Are there any reliable ISP's out there anymore who can provide a good service cheaply?

when i say cheap, it would be nice to cut the costs a little.....
 
In exactly the same boat, was considering cable myself but decided against.

Pipex has always been reliable, nearly 2 and a half years and had about 20 minutes of downtime. Currently have like you, 1mb uncapped @ 23 quid.

Want to cut costs (ideally wouldn't mind a bundle? free weekend & evening calls & at least 2mb bb) paying 49£'s at the moment for that bundle! any advice appreciated :)
 
Sky seems to have a good deal at the mo, £10 p/m for (up to) 16mb. The only caveat is that should have at least basic sky package.
 
if you do go adsl max then go ukfsn, £20/m 30gb peak/300gb off peak, entanet reseller

2nd best ISP tbh after BE

pipex do an 8mb service with free calls for £28 a month, but i've heard bad things about that too.
 
Your not gonna get a decent cheap uncapped service any more. They just dont exist (with possibly the exception of AOL).

Im with Aquiss who are also an entanet reseller. Im on the Max 60 which is 60GB peak and 330GB off peak for £31.99. Their customer service is excellent.
 
Personally if i were considering a new ISP and looking through these forums at all the horror stories regarding ADSL becomming over congested which it is i would be thinking of moving to cable.

Been with Telewest for two years without a single problem.

another vote for aquiss im on the office max 45gb peak 300gb off peak £32.99 20:1 contension and 832k upload :)

very very happy with them :cool:
 
to be fair, i could get away with a 40gb month cap anyway....not like i download that much anyway.

just can't warrant spending £25 p/m on a 1mb service when people are paying less for double the speed.

And when you said Pipex up to 8mpbs with bundled calls for £28 was bad... why ?

Bar the fact that it's 1mbps... i've been very happy with my current pipex service... as long as I can get it a bit faster it'd be great... esp. with bundled calls! currently paying £23 pipex & £20 for talk evenings and weekend!!!!!

EEK, NO!!, Eclipse used to be superb, now they are dire, they throttle, I wa sgettign 10k from paid for Usenet!!........IMHO its a toss up between Zen adn UKFSN at the moment, Zen is long established and rock solid if a tad expensive, UKFSN is an Entanet reseller and seems to embrace a genuinely philanthropic outlook with a fair d/load allowance/packages, personally I jumped from Eclipse to Zen but nearly went with UKFSN as things move very quickly with ISPs atm and Zen has at least been decent for a long time.........

Zen are on the expensive side.

ADSL24 and UKFSN seem to get very good reviews.

I'm liking the look of the £20p/m deal 30gb peak and 300gb off peak.

check out this site , loads of excellent info on the forums, UKFSN dude/s and Entanet post on the forums.

The package you mention seems good, UKFSN guy who posts on the forums mentioned above seems knowledgeable and measured.
