Choosing between 6700k, 5820k, 5930k and 5960X

I bought my 6700K 2 weeks ago for £275, WOW that seems like a bargin price now :D

I cant belive the current prices.

Incidentally the latest issue of PC Gamer (December) arrived yesterday. At the back they have a "recommended specs for a new PC" section. Their top-of-the-range build goes for an i7-6700K, but the price quoted is just £263!

Given the power and price of the i7-5820K, £263 would be about right for the quad-core chip... the current prices are laughable and I'd be amazed if OCUK were selling many at nearly £400 a pop.

Yes, I was expecting to pay about £270.

My old i7-920 was £230 and I thought I was mental paying that much.

Well the last few i7's have all been around the £260 mark, plus over the years things tend to go up in price.

I mean it's 7 years ago since the 920 came and look how much graphics card prices have gone up, now that's mental :D

The other reason to go for the 5930 over the 5920 is if you're going to use PCIe SSDs as they may take up those precious PCIe channels.

Okay, so now ive found the worst news ever out. Import charges. What is the best way to lower them? Also roughly how much will it be? I expect a lot but roughly?

Whereabouts are you? If you're not in the UK, I'm sure OCUK will have no trouble delivering to BFPO addresses.

Is your American relative not able to get her colleagues in Intel UK to send it to you?

Even if not, you're getting a very good price and you should just stump up the import duty.

That is actually a very good idea I will get my dad to ask him!
Regardless of that outcome, i think i will just end up paying the import fee, although it makes it less of a bargain, its still an absolute steal!

At that price I'd get a 5960x. Although if your not going to utilise the cores I'd get a 5930k or 5820k as they are exactly the same minus 2 cores. So gaming wise you wouldn't notice a difference if slightly lower performance because the 5960x wouldn't clock as fast.

Pricing on cpu's is pretty stupid.

If you want to avoid the import charge, you need to tell the sender to mark the parcel as a "gift" with value under £47. And that is it. No import charge for you.
BTW at that price, I would get as many 5960X as possible before I get the maximum quantity of other cpus. Yes I am greedy as hell! :P

Would customs check the package? Or what is the fine if caught :p

Your package MIGHT be checked. So there is a game of probability.
Small package like a CPU most likely wont be checked.
I have purchased a number of items from the States so speaking from the experience really.
I have bought a Caselabs SM8, 2 i7 5960Xs, a Gigabyte Z77 UP5 TH, evga SR-2, 3x xeon x5650s, Core 2 Duo E8700,... Never been checked
