Choosing The Right CPU...

To dig this up or re-open an old wound - I'm beginning to piece together the system - I've got this so far:

Motherboard:
Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)
CPU Cooler:
Memory: Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL5
Graphics Card: XFX 7900GT 256MB DDR3 DUAL DVI PCI-E
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 400GB ST3400620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-083-SE)
CD Drive: Sony CD-RW/DVD Combo 52x32x52x16x Internal OEM Black
DVD Drive: Samsung SH-S182D 18x18 DVD±RW ReWriter (Black) (CD-078-SA)
Case: Thermaltake VB1000BWS Soprano SuperMidi Tower - Black (CA-015-TT)

And a few other bits and pieces.

I could have swore someone suggested a CPU cooler - but seems not. Feel free to fire some at me.

As for the motherboard, the ones Jokester suggested a while ago seem to be the leading candidates - I have about £200 to play with so I can just go out and get one - should it fit into all my needs of course. I'm having a bit of trouble picking through all of the details - but I need one that:

  1. Must be OverClock Friendly.
  2. Supports SATA
  3. Supports IDE
  4. Supports 800MHz RAM (4 slots, preferably)
  5. Supports Dual Core 2 (preferably w/out bios updates)
  6. Three PCI Slots or more
  7. PCI-Express Slot For The Graphics Card
  8. £170 Max.
  9. And probably a lot more information that I have failed to mention

I'll obviously continue to look about for motherboards that fit that - but if you happen to know one - then do gimme a shout.

In regards to cables and that - am I to be expected to get my own or will the seller provide them? A case full of components and only power leads isn't as cluttered, but I don't think it'll work as well. :D

And the rest of the money, it will hopefully see over delivery and bits and bobs.

Mobo (whichever you choose) comes with all the cables you need. Screws, standoffs, etc come with case (& some DVD±Writers come with own screws)

Cheers hp. I'll probably opt for some pretty colourful ones if I take a mad notion - but wasn't sure where I would stand if I didn't buy them at the moment.

From what I've gathered, the Ultra 120 and Scythe Ninja range seem to be the most favoured CPU coolers. I must say, both are absolute brutes in terms of thier sizes - but having taken several glances at this case, I can see that it would probably fit into a case alright - still massive though.

If anyone can give the thumbs or even thumbs to any of those - it would be a good job. I'm sort of hoping to get the computer finalized for today and possibly ordered - in good time for packing and all of that lark.

Granted I still have a motherboard to get and a few peripherals too.
