Christmas lights 2023 - too early?

What throws me are different season wreaths that people put on their front doors. There's a house down my road that has about 7 different ones for different times of the year - Spring, Easter, summer, autumn, Halloween and Christmas. Plus in the new year - they put out a light blue metallic bauble one with snowmen etc.

With Christmas decs, some colleagues put up theirs mid Nov then moan that they are sick of them by 10th Dec. Don't put them up early then!

Nope. Mostly older people where I live, so it rare to see any before late Nov. Some of the cheap shops (our versions of B&M/Wilkos) have had xmas/Halloween stuff out since late September.

Family tradition is Dec1 or the closest weekend.

Halloween stuff up to tonight, we have quite a bit because little kids and these things are really fun for them.

Christmas stuff is December 1st at the earliest.

Halloween is a rubbish American† import that has pushed out the entirely better native British early winter festival of Guy Fawkes Night. It sucks

----

† Yes, I know Britain had Halloween before, but the version as it is now celebrated is very much an import from America.
Its my favourite holiday it's an excuse to do fancy dress that seems to get others to do it too.

That's what we have next week. Can't wait!

We've still got Hallowe'en and Guy Fawkes to go.

In Stafford, the Christmas lights switch on is always on the 20-something of November, on a Saturday, so this year will most likely fall on the 25th. That seems about right to me, marking the start of Christmas retail.

In my house, the lights go up on 1st December and go down on 6th January.

The exception to the rule was during the first COVID lockdown where people put lights outside their houses to try and brighten the sombre mood.

Did I ever tell you that these lights represents a symbol of my individuality and my belief in personal freedom?

not seen anyone with a set of the Philips Hue xmas lights - that would really be a message that you'd made it, looks like they are back in stock 250lights/£200
sync them with your music etc.

What a lovely life some people must have if they are bothered by people putting Christmas decs up

Fred West had skellingtons all over his house for months before Halloween, and that should have been a clear sign of mental illness.

I know people might say I'm drawing the wrong conclusion, but sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe.

What Halloween stuff do you put up?
Outside: orange/purple lights on the front roof bit (porch? Don't know what this is actually called), same colour stake lights, and my Wife has made a sort of pumpkin arrangement around the door. Included in this arrangement is this little fellow...

...who only really exists because we were so pleased with the Christmas version, and the eldest loves cats so much she might as well be one.

Oh and the wreath of course. Last year it was just the hanging lights plus pumpkin guard force.

Inside: living room has a little light up halloween tree with similar coloured baubles, balloons in the ceiling corners, paper pumpkins/3d paper bat decoration hanging on the curtain pole over the back door, the same lights as outside curled up the stair bannister, led candles inside a little spooky tin we got biscuits in one time as well as a black spooky looking house and a carved plastic pumpkin. Downstairs toilet has another led light up pumpkin and... the pièce de résistance, a light up fluffy pumpkin toilet seat cover.

I assure you it's all exceedingly tasteful, even the toilet seat cover. I don't blame you for not believing it, I wouldn't either.
