I know it is early but M&S and Waitrose have their home entertaining stuff available now.

The wife and I have had a couple of bad runs with Christmas lunch for the two years. One year we had a turkey that had gone off (inside date) so we had "trimmings". Last year we got a 3 bird roast from Aldi that was recommended in the press somewhere that was pretty poor.

Want to make sure this year we have something nice so we are thinking of getting something pre prepared from M&S or Waitrose. Anyone got any ideas? Or can recommend anything similar?

There are only two of us so no point in us getting a whole turkey or a goose. We want something nice that we can get and just stick in the oven. We want to make sure we are not at home to Fr. Cockup this year.

Don't do it. Christmas dinner can be as easy or as hard as you like. The eightfold and preparation can make life easy.
Many puddings can be frozen so prepare in advance.
Order meat from a good butcher.
Do a timing sheet and do as much peperstion in advance.

Unless you are cooking for loads, go get meat now and freeze it.

I know how to cook - I just want something this year where nothing will go wrong.

You can't imagine the horror of taking out a turkey crown to cook and finding it stinks to high heaven. No chance of fixing on Christmas Day either.

Erm... he just said that his previous ones had been bad, not that he had timing issues with his food. Sod freezing it, there are enough butchers around that way. I'd thoroughly recommend a crown. You can layer on the bacon to that, slap some potatoes round it with or without parsnips and you're golden.

Does not compute. Learn how to ballotine and do your own three bird roast, since it's just two of you what about quail, pheasant and duck? Or sausagemeat-stuffed chicken if that's too rich.

I didn't say he had timing issues. But he does want an easy life.
Lots if butchers about, but they are extremely busy at Christmas. Better to get it in advance unless your getting a massive turkey which won't fit in the freezer.
You can make life extremely easy if you want and pretty much make your own Pre made meal. Which will be a hell of a lot nicer.

Had Indian Game Bird one year, cockrel another. Quite nice changes to turkey. More often we have rib of beef these days though.

Go French and buy a Goose. So easy to cook and you will never go dry.

One thing the French know how to do is a Christmas dinner. Sod this Turkey rubbish.
