Chrysler crossfire

I thought these were cheap because they were fairly hopeless cars?

This !

Horible car to drive, feels like the early learning centre put together inside, and also felt very lathargic even with that V6 engine. Preferred the LEON FRs I drove day in day out compared to this. The SLK is also just nicer in every way than one of these.

Cheap because they are more poop than a poop infested poop factory overloaded with excess poop !

It seems very strange that somebody who spends so much of his time on this forum lecturing people at how terrible and pointless and nasty sub premium brand cars are suddenly thinks a Crossfire is a sensible purchase.

And as for 'A car is not something to ever put thought into buying as you can just sell it on' - yea, lol, nice one.

Seems a bit of a blokey cars anyway, only person I know with one was a Canadian fat bloke who I used to work with. Seemed to suit him though.

Thats enough of a reason to put her off ;)

Get her a Beetle Cabriolet - completely different car, but it's got bags of character and the German build quality she's used to from the Boxter. It's not a sports car but neither is the crossfire + open top motoring for the win. I'm sure anyone would tire of the crossfire long before the charm of the Beetle wore off.

Lol.

That is all.

Get her a 911 C2, they are 'next to nothing' now.

Yea, but dont put too much thought into it as it's only a car purchase, which requires zero thought really, as you can simply punt it on if you don't like it, what with the bouyant and easy market for this sort of car.

Granted, I'm not disputing that. But going from a Boxter to a Beatle Cabriolet would result in death by driving boredom

It depends what she wants from a car. She's downgrading from a pretty much perfect German sportscar, a Beetle Cabriolet represents a change with some benefits she might still appreciate, speed not being one of them, but that's clearly not the only or deciding factor here. To me, a cheap imitation of a sports car would not be an acceptable substitute for a Porsche, so why not consider the other factors such as cute looks, open top and build quality.

Eh.... I was just presenting an alternative, given that none of us knows exactly what she thinks or is looking for...

mnemonix - you are bang on, strangely this is actually the other car that she likes, and wanted until she saw the price of Crossfires. I am half tempted to simply produce an older boxster though, if those crossfires really are as monumentally bad as everybody seems to be making out. The reason for the current boxster has everything to do with the fact that it was a brand new porsche, and nothing to do with how fast or good the car is.

The main issue with the crossfires is that i have no clue where to get one, other than autotrader or pistonheads, none of which are cheap enough for what is essentially an unbranded car which will lose all of its value.

Welcome to the real world :p Maybe I could suggest Ebay or a car dealer?

The two you mentioned are the better middle ground options tbh. You cant invent value either.

Pending a test to see if this is all a fuss about nothing, and pending me finding somewhere cheaper to buy one, agreed.

Produce one? From stickyback plastic and toilet tubes? :p

Thats generally where you buy cars.

No, not from stickyback plastic and toilet tubes. And no, this is not generally where i buy cars.

It's generally where you buy cars you are not pretending to privately sell to others, your S and your previous actual cars all came from PH/AT :p

No, they didnt. I have bought 3 cars from PH/AT, put of 100+, these were an Omega, an MR2T, and the S-class, the S-class only being because it was at an excellent price

Thanks for telling me how to source cars though, i clearly do not know what i am doing.

Edit, i dont mean to sound arsey, but you are coming across as patronising when you know how i source cars and where claires car is likely to come from, being patronising is supposed to be my job ;)

I said it as being a downside for the crossfire, and then had the sarcastic comments - which are not needed! (see edit above)

Character?

An old thatched cottage has character, not a silly bubble looking car with 'astronomically epic fail' as its middle names.
