Using a 2600 series router, there is a command called "transport input none". i have transferred the configuration data onto the new 2800 router but it doesn't like that command, on the 2800 the only commands available are "transport input" and " transport preferred", not "transport input".

Just wandering if there are any cisco gurus who know what the command does, i have deleted in from the configuration file for the 2800 and it now works fine, just wandered if this causes any security vulnerability?

Cheers

It controls what methods can be used to connect to a certain line (aux, console, telnet...) on a router. Setting 'transport input none' would allow no connections on that particular line.

That didn't make much sense.. transport input is available, but it isn't?

yeah, my bad, transport output and transport preffered are on the 2800, transport input is not on the 2800.

so if i don't write that command in, does that mean that the router can be accessed through that port?

I wander if it is blocked by default using the newer IOS software??

thanks the reply, more helpful than the cisco site!

I believe that the default setting (for the 12.3's that I've played with recently) was for any transport to be allowed, ie, ssh or telnet to the vty's.

I'm not sure what happens with 12.4, I've only got a few routers running it (EIGRP is a bit flaky which is a big problem for me) but I think it uses the same default.
