Civic Type-R ...

Go test drive a proper Honda now - clue: it is rear wheel drive.

Was waiting for you/that simon ;) main problem with that is i don't wanna end up with my girlfriend and i both having 2 seaters! But i love the look and sound of s2000's, only reason i haven't taken one out is because i'd end up saying want want want! :) might go take a look though! :)

Ive averaged 28mpg since owning my Civic, i drive quite hard at all times.
On long motorway runs ive had 43mpg, on fun blasts thru the countryside i see 18-22mpg and on the trackday it was 6mpg.

No OBC showing MPG, so these values are based on the fact i always brim it and record my mileage when i do. :)

Doesn't sound bad at all darryn, when you put that into perspective :)

Just gonna speak to the dealer next week, see if we cna negotiate anything on the one I drove last week, otherwise I'll wait it out and keep bugging them, the annoying thing is the part-ex value of my car is probably dropping faster the FN2 prices! :(

When people talk about mpg are they going by trip computers (and if so, how accurate are they) or by petrol pumps? Just find it hard to believe a ctr can get similar mileage to my underpowered focus on a similar run (43mpg).

I work mine out via the fuel pump.

I can get ~40mpg on a comfortable run in by ITR DC5 :) This is measured my mileage / litres to brim the tank

Is it true the newer civic's have a really rough ride? Clarkson seems to think so and ive read on a few honda forums that its something to do with the size of wheel, (16" instead of 17" makes it much smoother apparently)?

The FN2 I drove felt no harsher than the EP3, if anything it felt less stiff, not soft, but less stiff.

The salesolddude at the garage I went to see the EP3 at yesterday put a gutsy statement/sales pitch saying "The FN2's handling is 30% worse than the EP3's" Now I know it may not be as tight of a track car, but how the hell can you even put it into %'s! Surely on 99% of road use you wouldn't see a single difference!

Can't remember off my head if the FN2 has 17's or 18's? All i know is 19's are an option! Hmm, from the looks of parkers it has 17's with 18 and 19 options!

S'confusin'! :D

Ci_newman, you're still gonna say take a DC5 out aren't you! ;) Hows the ride on that compared to a Civic-R? Any ideas? :)

I would certainly say not to overlook it :) TBH I can't comment on the ride quality however unlike the DC2, the DC5 seems to have a stiff yet comfortable set up.

Don't get me wrong, the Civic will probably be cheaper to run & buy but if you like the Civic then I cant see why you wouldn't fall in love with the ITR if you can stretch to it. It has more or less the same toys I think.

I wish I lived closer so I can convince you :p

Come on up, as you said, you'll get 40ish mpg on the run up then you can show me what you can do! ;) Leicester aint that far away! :D hehe

As you might have seen in the 330ci thread my mind is torn everywhere lol,

ITR looks gorgeous, can be expensive but is probably THE one I want, but get put off my higher mileage on vtec engines, not sure what kinda mileage they are made to run to before problems rear thier heads!

CTR FN2 just looks and feels great, enjoyed everything about it, but very expensive right now.

BMW 330ci not as "hardcore", nicer cruiser, and I'm just an indecisive git, go figure :)

Maybe I should just say sod it all get an MX5 for summer, keep my Civic over the summer, sell the MX5 in October time and see how car prices are then! lol

FN2 feels more modern, I actually like the interior on it - it just feels like a newer car compared to the EP3 (which is no great surprise really because it is!)

Besides that though it's worse in every other department imo - it's a heavier car with the same engine in, no independant rear suspension, a fugly rear end with limited visibility with the spoiler there. The TG episode review of it pretty much hit the nail on the head.

That being said on the basis of your admission that "not being an "on the edge" driver who wouldn't notice the difference between that and the EP3 as some here, and the creature comforts in it" the FN2 is definitely more suitable for you. I wouldn't really recommend any of the proper Type-Rs (:D) to you.

odd thing is, top gear then went on to announce the new type-r the best hot hatch of 2007 and it gets a great review from the stig on their site.
Clarkson brushed over the fact that around the test track the new type-r was several seconds quicker than the older model:

Don't let the facts get in the way of FN2 criticism! Just like Fox "forgetting" to mention in his FN2 review that the ride was so hard because he was on the optional 19" alloys!

I own a Milano Red CTR GT 07 and absolutely love the damn thing, its is a great car, it can be reasonable on petrol if you can resist keeping your foot off the go fast pedal :D

Im thinking of selling it though, not because i dont want it and not because i can't afford it but due to the fact it was an impulse buy and that im looking to travel and do things which "cost money". will be really sad to see it go when i sell and can see me buying another one in the future.

I would say get the FN2 if you like abit of luxury with speed.

Ahh TimBrad you poor sod still searching...

Ive decided on holding onto the astra for afew more months and getting a 350z :D

hehe feeling the pity, Sime :p

I'm still looking and thinking and god knows what atm, off to look at a 1992 MX-5 down the road later, might be something fun to do for summer, or i'll end up holding onto my Civic or...any number of possibilities, most of which will be played out numerous times, all in my head and never in reality!

Hmph!

WHAT!!! how much was yours when you got it? How much is it gonna be going for? ;) lol
