New York, NY – June 9, 2008 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization™, the next offering in the award-winning Civilization IV® universe, is currently in development at 2K’s world-renowned Firaxis Games development studio. Conceived from the ground up to take advantage of the Civilization IV engine, Colonization will be available fall 2008 exclusively for Games for Windows®.

“We’ve received many requests from fans over the years to bring back Colonization and now seemed to be the perfect time to do that,” said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. “The Civilization IV engine provided a fantastic foundation for a new Colonization experience and allowed us to create something great for both new players and long time fans of the game.”

In Colonization, players lead one of four European nations on a quest to conquer and rule the New World. Players will be challenged to guide their people from the oppressive motherland, discover the New World, and negotiate, trade and fight with both the natives and other nations as they acquire power and fight for freedom and independence.

As a complete reimagining of the 1994 classic, Colonization is a total conversion of Civilization IV that combines Civilization’s addictive “just one more turn” gameplay with all-new graphics and features that add more depth to the franchise. New features, such as a brand-new interface, improved diplomacy options and the included modding tools ensure that Colonization will be the next great title from gaming’s premier strategy game developer.

Awesome im really looking forward to this...I spent ages on the original colonization......just 1 more turn :)

lol i think i have the paul revere tune in my head atm

The original was great but became extremely boring once you had a medium sized ammount of cities and units. Wouldn't be an issue with the Civ IV engine though, as automated orders would fix that.

This should be brilliant, can't wait! :D

AWESOME colonization was my fav game stratwise when i was young. I couldn't stop playing and played it overnighters almost for a full 2 years. Brill if this is like the original colonization .

good point, it best not go the same way as railroad tycoon (or whatever it was called)

The main thing I want to see kept is the citizens. As in you have a city of 17 people but they're all different types. Not like civ where you have a city of 17 people but they're all the same and are just a number.

I loved my product specific cities. Miners in one, Blacksmiths in the next, gunsmiths in the next. My best game I had I think I had every single end product being produced at the end of a chain of colonys who only had one purpose.

Erm?
You have normall ''landworkers'' in civ4.
Scientists
Priests
Citzens
Engineers
Mercants
And spys.

think what he meant is that if u wanted lets say fisherman then u either had to send citizen to indian vilage that would train him, have fisherman teaching at school and training others, get lucky to get fisherman imigrant or recruit one from europe
and if i remember right in civ game u just asign number of people to certain profesion, you can do that in col as well but they not as effective as citizens trained to do that job

All in due time. Col2 has been waiting 14 years.

Not a monkeys unfortunately, and even if they did, it'd be utter carp.
No more Brian Reynolds, and all the Sid Meier stuff has been going more and more badly downhill since he left.

Unfortunately, once again I suspect they'll butcher a Brian Reynolds original with Colonization too

I just started playing Civ 4 again for an hour or so over the weekend, and am having a blast, as always. I think I will look into Colonisation when it's released, as it sounds pretty interesting!
