Civilization IV : Colonization

I love Civ 4 but this game looks like just another mod to me.

Precisely what I thought. This does just look like a well polished user mod. :(

My memory is a little cloudy thinking way back to Colonization, but it did not feel (or look) like CIV I or II even though the game mechanics were pretty similar. This has CIV 4 slapped all over it.

Yea it does look a little too similiar for my liking.

Still though it might be good. Col used the same engine pretty much as Civ. Been playing col since I read this thread. Almost to the stage where I can rebel. Forgot how great the game is. Been putting in 1 or 2 hours every day that I can.

Civ is just one of those games I buy on merit, which are becoming few and far between these days.

The series isn't perfect, the older I get the less patient I am with games and Civ can be very tedious at times, but it's getting better with each installment.

Well it will look like civ 4 because it is a standalone expansion i.e uses the same base as civ and same gfx basically and engine. Just a bit of a rewrite of code and some gfx adapted to fit the col game world.

Reason why it doesnt look like col is cos col was top down view not civ view like we get in civ 4. Which actually id prefer the top down myself for a new col game. No need for 3d in these games.

Very Very nice

 City screen looks ''interesting'', certainly not like in Civilization 4.
Also maps look good, really looking forward to it.

I like the upgraded graphics too, I hope it also upgrades the stock civ4 graphics a bit :).

In all honesty though, this is a mod for Civ4 just like all the mods in BTS, just a bit more advanced...
It's still Civilization IV : colonization, NOT colonization 2...
Still looking forward to this, I loved the scenario ''age of discovery'' in civilization 3: Conquests...
I have not played the original colonization, I have played the original civ though.

The thing i hate about this col 2 version of civ is that it has research. Col never had it and you got to pick a new founding father till you got them all in the original col unlike in col2 which there making only certain ones per empire which is dumb. Also col was a single player only game and should remain so i think these things like research is for multiplayer which sucks etc.

Tbh i want a true col 2 not a expansion pack for civ 4.

Its not a mod in any sense that Colonization was a mod of Civilization, unless they have done away with the war for independence..?

They just happened to stick to the Civ IV engine because A its not that bad and B civ fans like you who never played the original could be more inclined to pick it up.

The game plays very different yet similar to Civ.

I also hope the Civ IV gets this graphic update!

Ah okay.
Yes but it's still not just the engine, I mean it's still called civilization, I don't think the gameplay will be totally different, just quite a bit different ? Is the point of the game to make money now or something?
They don't call all civ4 engined games civilization, I mean look at Sid Meiers railroads, it's the same engine but bears nothing of it in the name :).

I just hope they don't forget to add an ''earth'' map, I really like playing real world maps they somehow feel so much more realistic than randomly created ones :).

Hey skeet, how do you know there will be research, I can't see the research on any of those pics in the usual place for it... Have you heard it from that e3 interview or something ? I can't see anything wrong with research itself tbh, there's ai in it so why can't that ai opponent be a human one, it's a turn based game. ? You can totally ignore mp if you want still ? I mean imo mp is a positive only thing...

Have to disagree with you on that one, the original civ was top down too but 3d did not hurt it at all, every installation of civ became better than the previous one, civ2 was better than 1, civ 3 was better than 2, and civ 4 is awesome compared to civ 3...
Seeing the history of the civilization series, I see no reason why colonization would be any different, many people who played civ original now love civ 4, me being one of them :)...

Well i always liked col more than civ as it was more my kinda game as i played it constantly for years on the amiga. I would adise you go read reviews of the original to see the differences.

Research was mentioned in the e3 interview.

About col. The aim of the game is to win independence from your country of origin. The other aim is to build up a economic empire in the new world. There will be a limit of 300 turns in this new game so you cant go on forever like in civ.

Heres a preview vid of the old col.

AC though, was basically civ in a different universe, i could never really take to it. Colonisation was a nice departure from civ universe, we know they are great at updating franchises, unlike most software houses, so i really look forward to revisiting colonisation.

Im sorry you didnt take to it but really it was so much more than civ. Ive played it pretty much to death and it always feels much larger far more exciting and a greater adventure than civ ever does for me.

Colonization was for me the best Civ type game. Alpha Centauri for me was the least good ... anyway it will probably come after Col so no worries and everyone happy! :)

OMG OMG OMG!! I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS FOR 14 YEARS!!

I was one of the people that emailed them every year asking if they were ever going to make a sequal. This is all my gaming dreams come true.. they better not **** it up!

I still play the original loads :D best gmae ever made imo :)

Buying this as soon as it comes out, hope it's on Steam!

I'm a huge Civ fan, someone who can quite easily blow away 8 hours on a high difficulty epic setting game.

I've actually never played Colonization so I'm hopefully in for a treat... at least it'll be a nice tide-over until Civ 5 arrives :D

Seriously? ''oh ****'' :( !

I hate short games, they're way too uninvolving, I always play epic or marathon speeds in civ4 so it has extra turns, I'm used to at least 700 turns /game :(. Really hope there's a way to enhance game length in it.
