Civilization IV : Colonization

Build up your rebel %. You've got to get that to 50% on average before you can declare independence.

Does anyone actually read the manual?!

What manual? :p

I read the in game civpedia thingy a lot though :)

Ahh.. I just got attacked by the natives on my island, I was being nice and setting up missions, trading at their prices, buying land when they demanded it and they still attacked. Wiped out my settlement that had my vet soldier (he was a farmer at the time) and his guns and horses. Now I only have one hastily assembled dragoon in my capital with 4 colonies to protect.

I think I might have to start again!

Also does anyone know if there is a real americas map you can play on? I know there's a carribean one but I'd love to play using the old map.

I really like this game, but its a shame that text seems to replace all the nice pixely graphics of the original. I was particularly disappointed with the Europe screen.

On my third game now, got wiped out in the second game by natives again. Really concentrating on keeping a standing military up now.

Did anyone else have the problem of not being able to change a soldier to a dragoon as english even with enough horses?

So far the gameplay seems a bit poorer, certainly not as rivetting as the original. Graphics are okay, good on the map but let down by the GUI. Blurry goods pics and even the main screen interface looks pixellated.

what level are you playing on to get wiped by the natives? i agree with the gameplay bit as mentioned above, i've not been quite as riveted as i remember plus the world seems a lot smaller (even on huge).

the best way i've found to progress to to have a high food producing place that pops out new colonists and then have an ore and tools/gunsmith colony that's provides stuff for the troops. saying that though i've not actually got to the end yet!

Have now played 2 full games on this and lost both times on the 2nd easiest setting :(

First time I ran out of turns as I was only just read to declare independence with 8 turns remaining!

So tried again and this time starting building bells earlier. However that seems to mean the kings builds up his army much quicker, so that when I declared with about 50 turns to go, I had about 15 cannons, 30 dragoons and a handful of soldiers. He had 75 dragoons, 60 old soldiers, 40 artillery (better than cannons) and 40 war ships! Fought for a bit but it was a losing battle from the start.

Seem to be a few bugs or balance tweaks needed, or maybe I'm just not very good. For example, the best ship you can get has an attack of 8. His ships have an attack of 12 so you can't kill them without using 2-3 of your own, sacrificing 2 of them. Clearly not sustainable to try and kill his ships in the water so what's the point of building them?

Also is it just me, or is the AI rubbish. You can walk all over the other colonists any time you want it seems. Most of the time their colonies aren't even defended!
