Civilization IV : Colonization

Anyone got this yet? I got a message from the purple people yesterday to say my copy had been dispatched, so hoping it turns up today. Can't wait!

i got this yesterday but didn't have much time to play it. intitial impressions are pretty good, it looks really shiny, the basic mechanics seems to be there (though i'm not sure about the founding father bits atm), the most difficult bit is getting out of the civ4 mentality!

Oh god yea

I'm really struggling atm >_<

Got my copy yesterday too but in from work late so only got 30mins at it before bed time - if I was proper hard-core I guess I would have stayed up all night.

Anyway, first impressions are all good looks like they haven't messed with the basic mechanics too much and I'd settle for a graphics remake and a few other tweaks if that's all it is.

Got a few hours on it yesterday and I'm quite impressed. Never even heard of colonization before :p

Man this game is hard! Can win CivIV at the higher levels usually and played a lot of the original Col back in the day, but just been totally wiped at the middle difficulty on this. That 300 turn limit really sneaks up on you.

I don't even know how to make soldiers/cannons n stuff :D:D

Got 70 turns left.

What are the DRM restrictions on this? I'm looking at picking it up second hand, but want to make sure I will be able to run it!

anyone completed (or won) yet? I am finding it quite hard..

Nope, getting a big ''semi military'' is hard because of the 200 guns stock limit per colony, and keeping a soldier truly a soldier when in peace is a bit of a waste imo. So my military is always a bit backwards.

I'm finding this pretty tough too! My military is pretty dire.

Is it best to put the immigrants into 1 big colony to start with, or say make 2 or 3 small colonies and build them up slowly? Anyone had much success?

Don't seem to remember the original causing me quite as many problems back in the day.

I find the turn limit creeping up pretty fast without me having achieved much

I've got like 5 colonies, 2 are packed out with immigrants while the others are 2-3 each.

Plymouth has grown to a size 11 but i can't figure out how to make Soldiers/Cannons D::D

I reckon you go for about 5-8 colonies total, but better to start 2 separate ones initially with your 2 units rather than 1 colony with both in.

You really need to start cranking the liberty bells and guns from about turn 150 or you'll fail as it takes a long time to build both up. A dedicated ore -> tools -> guns colony helps.

Guns are made from tools in an arsenal/magazine.
