Civilization V

Quick question regarding minimum gfx card recommendations, my little bro has just got into this and has awful onboard gfx, starts up but screen goes black then closes down, I was thinking and Amd 6570? Would this be ok, lowest gfx settings are fine he just wants it too run! Don't have rest of spec until I get home for more details, any advice would be great.

Thanks

Depends on a lot of things other then graphics card, such as resolution, game type, map size, rest of the PC, how many civs, how many city states etc.; in terms of raw graphics power the 6570 should be okay but wouldn't expect more than 20-25 fps at 1360x768 and even then it might get really sluggish beyond turn 200 (assuming standard game settings),

I bought this and the gold expansion for £7.50 on steam (flash sale on friday)

It is awesome, I spent almost my entire weekend playing. Bargain.

Play it for a few months and get the most you can out of it, then buy the Brave New World expansion. Add's a fair few things and refreshes the game/experience.

Has anyone else found the bug relating to diplomatic proposals and counter proposals?

Some friends and I played a match last night and using counter proposals and a buggy interface to automatically accept them, we were able to take over other peoples cities without them even opening the counter proposal

Played a fair few coop games and not noticed anything Newman. Always seem to get matched against America though and they don't half seem to have a lot of delegates! Always trying to ban the valuable resources. Not noticed any other nation doing it as much.

We were able to reproduce the bug quite easily, although we've only tried doing it in one match. The sequence went as follows:

  1. CivA makes a proposal to CivB
  2. CivB makes a counter-proposal to CivA
  3. Before CivA can open the counter-proposal, CivB opens the original proposal short cut again and accepts
  4. CivB wins

Having finally got around to buying this over Christmas (long time Civ fan) I have decided that it's vastly inferior to Civ4. It's just so dumbed down and lacking in city customisation. It just doesn't feel as special or epic to play as its predecessor. I do prefer the anti-unit stacking combat system though.

I'm sure these sentiments have already been expressed before in this thread.

I agree with you. Civ 4 BTS is my favourite of all the series and Civ 5 just didn't work for me.

Will get the DLC though (probably in the summer) and give it another go as I think it definitely deserves another chance.

Are you talking about Civ 5 vanilla, Civ 5 Gold (with Gods and Kings) or the full Civ 5 with Brave New World? They're very different animals.

Agree with this comment above. Vanilla Civ 5 was very ordinary indeed. The Brave New World expansion on the other hand has transformed it into an excellent game.

Just dusted this off, can someone tell me what all the stuff on the trade tooltip mean?

I mean do the arrows to the left mean stuff I'm sending them and the arrows to the right means what I'm getting?

The details on the revenue tooltip don't seem to match...

Yes and I think that is just showing your surplus? Ie you only need 1 of each luxury resource.

Any ideas on why this game is unstable for me? Wanted to get into it but after about 20-30 turns it will just crash with civ 5 has stopped responding. Started new one and same thing

All other games rock solid (apart from BF4 spawn in vehicle bug from last patch!), game verified with no missing files but it just refuses to run for any length of time.

CPU overclock IBT/Prime 9+ hours stable, GPU clock makes no difference.

EDIT: Just done some searching through this thread. Will turn leader screen down to medium or less, was running DX11 mode previously so could give DX9 a try but thats not really a fix in my eyes

Great offer there. The game is good right now but the AI is still not capable of putting up a fight. During the last four games I've played (Immortal difficulty), I've had my opponents blindly charging my cities with vastly superior armies only to get trashed with minimal losses...

Are there any mods that fix the AI? Is multiplayer a viable option?

I came here to say exactly the same thing. I had an AI decide to attack me except it didnt attack the closest city but instead moved all its units past my city allowing me to half kill them all.

The game is fun but the AI is just a complete joke and to be honest, its not really a game thats sold for its multiplayer.
