Civilization V

I can't run it in DX11 since updating. When I launch it says I require Service Pack 2 or above to run DX10/11. I've no idea what it is meaning though, I'm running Win 7, all up to date, Civ 5 updated through Steam, Cat 10.9s. It's annoying!

I haven't been able to start any games since Steam updated with the new patch. At first I thought it was just my mods not working, but after removing all of them from the game (and the mods folder) that hasn't helped. I'm still unable to play.

Oddly when asking Steam to check the local files for the game it tells me one file is corrupt and will be reaquired, yet it never successfully fixes the problem - if I check a second or third time it says the same - yet I can see it downloading the file and shoving it in the folder.

Downloading again for a fresh install, removed all traces from the PC and we'll see if it'll work. I've disabled Steam updates for it though, I have no faith that they are being tested properly before being rolled out after reading the official forums. It seems this patch causes as many bugs as it fixes.

New patch, new bugs :(

If you purchased the Steam Deluxe Edition, you might want to check you can save and load games without issue before starting a new Marathon game. Firaxis are aware of the issue, so hopefully it'll be hotfixed quickly.

Hahaha carried on my epic length , emperor game this evening, was on turn 460 , first time I've played since the patch, continued and within 4 turns Persia declared war and sent a big invasion via the sea and attacked my lands, landed about a dozen units via ship and sent some ships for fire support. Caught me completely unexpectedly , wasn't at all ready for that.

I can't load my saved game, was enjoying it too, don't want to start over.

Had issues with mine too, all my deals got canceled and the 2nd biggest player started attacking me straight away too luckly we had a choke point between us and I just defended unit they was weak enough to take 2 cities from them. Looked like they was getting a invasion force up out to sea but I managed a peace treaty before they got close. Fun. Going to come 4th out of 6 left though :(

Any feedback since the patch except the saving issue? Busy on Fallout NV but getting twitched to have another game. Tombstone being attacked by sea sounds promising.

Trading with the AI is almost worthless now. Used to be that you could get 300g for a resource / luxury or a 1:1 exchange if the AI wasn't hostile. Now it's 150g tops, and the AI always wants a 2:1 trade on resources, even on low difficulty levels too. Maybe the old way was a smidge generous to the player, but this "fix" seems totally over the top. With research agreements, when I tried to start one with an AI I'd been friendly with the whole game, he wouldn't accept it unless I gave him more incentive, yet the AI's were having constant research agreements with each other.

Buildings still take as long as wonders to produce :(

I've only puppetted one city so far, and it started off trying to build a lighthouse so I razed it and sent a settler. Useless.

Thats not worthless. Its called not exploiting a silly AI to bleed it dry whilst keeping your coffers brimming over. Was no problem to just take the 3-4 excess luxuries you had and extort the richest AI; christ you could even sell them open borders. Also on them not giving you research agreements I haven't seen that -- you sure they didn't have pacts of secrecy against you?

Still needs tweaking more to imo to make it much more shrewd when dealing with players expecting a free lunch.

DLC out, wish they'd released working saved games instead.

Just payed for the Babylon's  so worth it just for how powerful they seem at the start of the game (very much like the Persians)

Should have got the steam version to have them last month really to play as them... Hope there's new and more exciting content soon :)

I'm actually pretty excited, for the first time I am in with a shot of winning one of my emperor games (huge map, epic length) , I'm on turn 634 and am in with a shout of a science victory if I can just manage to get things done in time, its going to be tight and several nations are far larger than me but I might just about make it. Going to save it there for tonight and try and finish it off tomorrow night.

so you have to pay extra for babylon? thats stupid. :(

Precisely my thoughts. Its a shame the DLC model has come to this game. What a money sink.

This will undoubtedly come as free in the next expansion or something.

I remember a time when such additions we're given out for free.

How much is this DLC and is it even worth it? No idea what is so good about the babylonian civ as this is my first Civ game.

Civ's always a money sink, I was so annoyed at 3 when ptw was then included in the final expansion when I payed full price for both :(

4 was the same and iv come to accept that 5 will be similar, the dlc model almost helps though being able to pick and choose the bits you do and dont want (and combats piracy that tends to dissuade game develops a bit) but yeah it is a bit of a bum to pay an extra 3 quid for a box (thats how im looking at it as it cost 2.99 for the civ from the steam edition which I could have had on release)

Just so long as they keep this patched regularly (steam is much better way to implement this than civ 4's flakey updater) no one can feel too hard done by...
