CL Qualifiers - 3rd rnd, 1st Leg *spoilers*

If it was so predictable, can we assume you made some money out of it?;)

Indeed I did :p £10 @ 4/1 last night!

It was a similar bet to when I backed Llanelli @ 9/1 at the start of their Europa run. It is always worthwhile backing teams who are well into their seasons against a team just coming into their first competitive game.

I love bets like that because despite the long odds you know you have a very good chance to the stage the teams are in during their season.

The problem is Celtic need to do what they haven't done in god knows how long....win Away from home in Europe.

Is that the only change then? No protection?

There still is seedings and Arsenal are one of the seeded teams in their Qualifying.....sorry.....play off round.

Believe so.

There seems to be some confusion actually on the matter despite me saying seeding above. There are people saying Arsenal will be seeded and people saying they wont be. As Far as I'm aware the seeded teams are the top 5 in terms of coefficients after the 3rd round is finished with the other 5 being unseeded.

I initially thought it was an open draw but people led me to believe it was seeded on another forum so I suspect Arsenal may be seeded.

But if there are seedings still then nothing has changed .

The big change this season is the fact that the teams who finish in the runner up spots etc have their own qualification section.

This leaves the Non-Automatic Qualifying Champions to play off in their own qualifying campaign which is called the Champions Play off or something.

These changes to the qualification process ensure that more teams who won their leagues get into the Champions League proper instead of the usual influx of runner runner ups.

5 teams from the Runners Up Section
5 teams from the Champions Section

This also means there will be some very poor 4th seeded teams to play in the group stages this year.

Only £10? You should have got a crisis loan and made some real money.:D

Probably but it was at Celtic Park afterall :p

Na your board will have another share issue.

But remember you have spent and if theres no CL income you will make a loss as any players teams might have wanted are now cup tied for Europe.

Why would we need to sell our players? We have virtually no debt.

You should have stuck to what happened on the pitch :D LOL

You will have a debt if you dont make CL coupled with expenditure on new players I'd expect a debt rise of around 8-10 million this year with no CL money.

McFud, I've got a £10 bet at 5/1 that Rangers will not win a single CL game so let's not laugh to hard at Celtic when your own team is about to be humbled six times on the trot. Rangers will never match Celtic's home record in the CL and our away day problems have got to end at some point so let's just wait and see shall we?

To be fair Dynamo Moscow and Steau Bucharest are decent European teams although I think most people expected Celtic to win at home, even if the confidence was from meaningless Wembley Cup against reserve teams or mediocre signings.

The most embarrassing result was probably Aberdeen's at home so I don't think McGhee will be in the job long since he'll lose the fans quickly unless they make a great start to the SPL season.

As for Rangers I doubt most fans expect anything other than paying off the club debt with a decent run and they'll be very happy with last 16, but at least we'll have a Scottish club in the group stages.

Well McGooglieeyes that'll be you 10 quid down from yer crisis loan then eh? ;)

Its hard not to laugh at Smeltic and their Iron Curtain defence not to mention their Barcelonaesque style of play :p I very much doubt we will match your away record in the Champions league either 1 point from 54 that still makes me smile.

Brave of you to use the f*d word to as I got taken to task for using the tw*t word which means exactly the same term on here.

Well that is quite humourous as we will win a home game and get possibly two credible away results :p The way the draw works out we have a good chance of getting a minnow in the group stage from pot 4 but then again I forgot what happened with Celtic last year havent I....

We are well equiped for Europe with players like Mendes who thrive with time on the ball compared to games in the SPL, this is why Naka was always more effective in Europe for Celtic than in the SPL.

Last night however, Mark McGhee had that one coming and my Dad who is a massive Motherwell fan couldnt be happier at the Dons loss!!!

To be fair to Motherwell I think they've done well to get through the first 2 rounds but shouldnt be embarassed with the Steaua result as they are more than a class apart.
