Was coming home Christmas day with my missus and 6 week old baby when a car came the wrong way down the dual carriage way ploughing head on into us. Luckily we all came out alive, not even a scratch on our little one. My missus has some whiplash etc but nothing serious. The car was completely written off & I managed to survive with a broken femur & cracked rib. I have been given surgery meaning I now have a metal rod down my leg from my thigh to my knee along with a couple of screws.

Anyway, i'm now back at home after spending Christmas & New years in hospital & my solicitors (instructed my my insurance) have contacted me about making a claim. I have filled out all the forms etc but I cant help wondering what I should be expecting if anything at all..?

Have any of you been injured and claimed?
What injury did you have & what was the claim?

I have never been of the mind to claim unless something was seriously out of line and at fault, not just being clumsy - but sounds like you definatly have a case for a claim, was the guy drunk? or joyriding? or was it as geniune mistake? (I know my friend turned out of my estate onto the wrong lane of a dual carriageway, it happens).

If it is the first two, I think you have a definate claim in my opinion.

Should be a few grand.

My mate got 600 for minor whiplash and 2 days of work. She didn't even want to claim. Her insurance company pretty much made her do it.

The police haven't had confirmation if he was over the limit yet because he was unconscious, the blood sample results can apparently take over 6 weeks. He wasn't joy riding, thats already been proven. The police are stumped at how he managed it because he would have literally had to of gone the wrong way round a roundabout to get on the wrong side.

I had a car accident in 2004 which resulted in continuing back pain (two weeks off work resulted), it turned out to be permanent (ie; I'm still having back problems now) and I was reimbursed with £1200.
I could have got more I dare say, but my mum died at around the same time which kinda made me lose interest in the thing

Guy at work came off his motorbike and got his wedding ring caught on something, stripping his finger to the bone. This his claim for damages was somewhere in the region of £1-2k. BUT the process for this took absolutely ages, more than 2 years after the accident.

A friend had an accident at work caused by partial negligence from the company. He didnt see any money until just short of three years I think.

On top of the physical damage claim, you are also entitle to claim for suffering as a result of not being able to lead your normal life.

In my case many years ago when I suffered a neck injury, my solicitor sued for the fact (among others), that when on a romantic break with my girlfriend ,the painkillers meant I wasn't able to "enjoy" the weekend with the in quite the way we might have planned.;)

I had a car crash when I was 17 (6 years ago) and smashed my knee to pieces. Same scenario as yours a car ploughed straight into me, I had other broken bones but the knee was the worst. I had to have it "re-made" with wires and all sorts. I'm likely to have arthrititus in it by the time I'm 30 :(

I got £21k though compensation.

I'd still go back and not have to go through that time again though, I hate hearing people say "Jeez, I wish I could have a car crash for that much money"

Not a very nice experience whatsoever.

If you aren't getting money here then there's something wrong with the world. I'm glad your child is okay though.

I'd be expecting several thousand for a femur, whiplash, loss of work and potential fear of driving.

I was run over and badly broke my leg when I was 12. It may not seem that bad but I lost a great big chunk of bone so it took about 4 months longer than it should have done to heal (about 12 months in total) and as it was a compound fracture I had a large wound aswell.

It's literally only just been settled for £11750 of which £2000 of that is for my mum for everything she did and the time she took off work ect.

a friend of my fathers had a bike accident and had 4inch of his leg crushed! after 3 years of fighting and 6 years later he still cant walk without crutches he got in excess of £200,000 after legal fee ect...

So hold on, as long as it was his fault ten you will get the compensation you deserve

as well as lack of sleep due to nightmares, loss of insurance money for the rest of the year(or till it runs out) because your too scared to drive, claims for new sheets ect... it hurts too much to go to the bathroom on a night. LOL could go on forever.

Good luck with the claim anyway bud.

Around eight years ago a friend of mine was attacked, had half his teeth knocked about (all of them across the front - his current incisors and cannines - are fakes drilled into his jawbone), three fingers sliced to the bone (his thumb was left hanging from a piece of cartilage), several cuts across his torso and his throat slashed (the scar is horrific - heaven knows how he survived - tough bugger!) and he got the grand total of £3k compensation.

OMG, was there a reason for the attack? Pretty strong if there wasnt

Jeez, sounds like he's lucky to be alive! Did the buggers that did that get caught?
